Highlander saga - different versions
#11
I have the French Version of the film coming to me (A friend in Paris picked up the 3 disc steelbook for my collection) so happy to upload it if it's needed for a project of some sorts?

SpoRv, there must be an error because Highlander 2 and 3 don't actually exist.

^ Ha! That's more or less how I view it. This is yet another series in which I prefer to take the original as a stand-alone film. I do find all the different versions of H2 quite fascinating though.

It's an easy joke but nobody was making it... somebody had to. Big Grin

It's true, Highlander 2 is so messy that any additional footage or alternate cuts are going to interest me way more than the film itself.

In the sense there isn't a movie called "Highlander 2" (or "Highlander 3"), you are right; that's a convention to let people understand I was talking about of the second and third film in the series... it's a bit like "Star Wars: A New Hope"... does it exist? Or it should be just "Star Wars"? And it's Star Wars 4 indeed? Shouldn't this be "promoted" to SW 4.1 after "Rogue One"? Tongue

No, spoRv, in the sense that they are such terrible films they don't exist at all to me, sequels to Highlander don't exist! Big Grin

My wife introduced me to Highlander, possibly even while we were still dating, and I was captivated. I later owned two editions on DVD and recently bought a Blu-ray copy. It was thrilling to see it again! I've always considered it to be a faerie tale, especially with the song "Who wants to live forever?"

But shortly after I saw it for the first time, we rented the Renegade Version of the sequel. I was traumatized. Something that had been so wonderful in concept was reduced to awfulness.

(It's actually what I fear about Blade Runner 2049 in a few months.)

Never saw the third film.

But I did see the last, with Connor, and was both impressed and horrified. It so beautifully dovetailed in with both the TV series and the first film! ...but my memory is that it did so without heart. The original film had joy; the final sequel (it was the final one, right?) did not.
