Just got back from the French "movie" Le Chant du loup: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7458762/
What a waste of time! Bad writing, bad acting, bad characters, bad direction. That looked like a glorified TV movie that got its budget validated for western anti-Russia propaganda purposes that turns into a bad remake of Crimson Tide, with elements from Red October, without the talent. And on top of that, even though they had the sound made at Skywalker Sound, that's useless when actors can't enonciate half the time: I had to wait the end credit to read that the actual name of the main character was "Chanteraide", as I heard the whole movie people calling him "Chantrelle". Well, at least I got to experience a new kind of screening: the Onyx LED 10 meter wide screen by Samsung with pure blacks and whatnot... I just wish I had experienced this with a real movie.

Aquaman (2018)
Dunno... not a bad movie, but neither a good one... a lot of "things going on" on screen most of the time (mostly underwater) that keep distracting, losing focus... a melting pot of other movies came to mind in any moment - some titles: Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Jurassic Park, Pacific Rim, The Abyss, Tomb Raider, Black Panther, TinTin (!) - plus Sam Raimi's Spider-Man's Green Goblin. Again, dunno... it had funny moments - and dumb ones, too: c'mon, "Black Manta"... with that helmet... really? - a lot of different locations, some good CGI, and bad too; nice music, okay acting... still undecided if I liked it or not; so, let's give it a neutral vote for the moment, maybe a second watch is needed. 5/10 Lo (2009) Stumbled upon this, read the summary on IMDB: "Love presents many challenges to couples...but none so daunting as the one Justin faces with his girlfriend April. Kidnapped by demons, April's mystery begins to unfold when he finds an ancient book that she has left behind. Using the book, he contacts the demon Lo, ordering it to help him rescue his girl from the fiery pits. But Lo has other plans for his new master...dinner being one of them." it seemed interesting... well, the idea, at the end, was not bad, but soooo poorly executed! Yes, some funny moments, but, unless you want to throw away 80 minutes of your life watching few humans and demons mostly inside a black room and few other things more, my advice is to spend time in a better way - reading my reviews, for example! ![]() 3/10

Just came back from a 4K screening of The Matrix: looked the same colorwise as the remastered Blu-ray, but the highlights didn't seem as blown out as on the Blu-ray.

Looking for a 4K or 35mm screening myself... never got to see it in theaters back in 1999.

The Dirt on Netflix. Opens with female ejaculation. Just awesome.

Tonight, it was 1922 German silent not so black & white ripoff of Dracula, Nosferatu, on DCP in theater. I had never seen this classic oddity.

Watched The Mule by Clint Eastwood. Really good movie, tremendously enjoyed it.
Only criticism is that

Just watched Aquaman in 3D Blu-ray, fully in 2.39:1, unlike the 2D that opens to IMAX sometimes. I had not seen it in theater. I liked it. It's the average super-hero movie with enough fun, action and sense of adventure and quest to keep me interested.

Executive Decision (1996)
watched yesterday on TV, after maybe twenty years on laserdisc; completely forgot about it, apart... Well, it was fun, quite well acted - sometimes overacted; funny to see Kurt Russell along his previously companion on "The Thing", along with B.D. Wong (Jurassic Park), Joe Morton (Terminator), Oliver Platt, an always beautiful Halle Berry and other faces more or less famous, yet always recognizable - like the air marshall, and the Oceanic airplane! ![]() Personal note: the actor who acted as the first officer (https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0587379/) look like LOL ;-) star (https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1277856/) and I mean it, almost identical - not only the aspect, but also how he moved... Yep, SFX were quite poor sometimes, but luckily they last not so much, and did not ruin too much the experience; so, at the end I liked it! 7/10 |
