[Proposal] Alien custom mix
#11
^ Do you mean this thread?  It's great. It's just that I don't have access to a hardware decoder.

Yep! PDB, if I'm not mistaken, has a good ol' Fosgate DS (or DPL?) decoder...

A couple of Fosgates, Shures, an Involve, couple others I got super cheap. I'm trying to work on a better way of capping "de-matrix-ed" tracks from these guys. So if I get anywhere, I'll send you some test work Chew for this project.

Thanks! I am still concerned about how upmixing will affect the music and remain very skeptical about combining matrixed channels with discrete ones, but it's worth a shot.

Some work better with music then others. Dolby Surround/PL/whatever can screw up the music but things like the Shure or Involve use a different path to de-matrix the channels, so sometimes the music comes off much, much better. Just need to run some tests.

Worse case scenario it's useless to you so you are still in the same position you are nowWink

After looking at the the PCM vs DD you posted, a PCM project is beginning to sound like a better proposition.

If I may permit to tell my opinion, I'd try a discrete encoding using the hardware dematrixed track provided by PDB, maybe a classic DTS to get the best compromise between size and quality for release, and the DTS-HD MA for archival purposes.

If we manage to pull off a discrete mix, it'll be released as DTS-HD MA 5.1. I think PDB was talking about sources, rather than the final encoding, which is a long way off.

I was still there:

That's still where I am.  I'll release a 2.1 version whether or not AntcuFaalb can work out how to integrate the discrete mix with the upmixed 2.0.

Why don't do two versions? Best of both worlds... Wink
