[Idea] Fistful of Dollars (1964) - Multiaudio / Multisub / Multiversion / Multi-AR

After what I heard they did to screw up TGTBATU, I'm not getting my hopes up for that one.

The restoration is not sourced from Kino. It's the 2014 Italian 4k remaster that hasn't got a home media release yet. I think it originally premiered at Cannes.

That only confirms my choice of the 2007 remaster for my source. Clearly the 2007 remaster looks so beautiful as it is, why did Ritrovata decide a new remaster in 2014 was even necessary?

If I remember correctly, a different company did it from the 2007 release and they were miffed they weren't chosen. As for why it was done, the older transfer was done at 2k. People thought it looked very nice when it premiered at Cannes.

From the screenshots that have been released of the restoration, apparently the geniuses at Cannes must've used the wrong type of projection screen for this one, because the skies look green at best and yellow at worst.

Oh, wow, you are right. I looked, and apparently caps of this have gotten onto the internet. Apparently Ritrovata is the company that did that ugly green GTTBATU remaster (and many other restorations with similarly greenish color-timing). It's a shame, because at least for GTTBATU, the desaturated skies were more accurate to release prints than the old Italian bluray, but the extreme green tint is definitely not.

So sticking with the 2007 master is probably for the best.

Kino is also supposed to do FAFDM and is likely to do a 4k uhd of their mucked up GBU.

I have a French SDTV recording of the 2014 remaster :

"Restoration made by Cineteca di Bologna and Unidis Jolly Film at L'Immagine Ritrovata laboratory. Financed by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and the Film Foundation."

[Image: 862254C8Pourunepoignededollars1604201720...111618.jpg]

"The picture restoration was done from the Techniscope original negative registered at the Cineteca di Bologna archives by the Unidis Jolly Film company. Cinematographer Ennio Guarnieri supervised the color timing, and a vintage Technicolor print was used as reference at this stage."

[Image: 442146C8Pourunepoignededollars1604201720...111638.jpg]

"Music was remastered from two 35mm and 16mm original magnetic elements. The final mix was reconstructed from two 35mm and 16mm music and effect original magnetic elements, plus two English sound negative elements that belong to Unidis Jolly Film. The magnetic elements were registered at Deluxe, Los Angeles, by MGM. For the beginning and end credits, a first generation combined interpositive, that belongs to Unidis Jolly Film, was used. The restoration was completed in 2014."

Yeah, typical Ritrovata restoration right there. Odds are, Kino will take out the yellows too aggressively like they did on TGTBATU. If anything, Ritrovata cares less about the Dollars Trilogy than Kino does; after all, they're the ones responsible for polluting the prints with excessive yellows, moreso than is necessary on a Sergio Leone film.

Koopa Luath, you're aware that Kino Lorber is coming out with a 4k remastered BD of the 1968 Thomas Crowne Affair in feb, right? Since their BDs of GBU, The Long Riders, Burnt Offerings, Busting, and the Depatie-Freeling shots (starting with Sheriff Hoot Kloot) were scans they produced, they also contained the original UA logos intact for the 1st time in years. Going by that, i'm 9000% sure the Thomas Crown remaster will feature a 4K version of the Transamerica prototype logo you're seeking.
