Would it be that different, though, if the 6-track in question had stereo surround channels as well? Both CDS and 6-track would be 5.1, so why would they bother making 2 mixes? I would rather think they're both the same mix, just delivered differently, one being digital, the other being magnetic.
Not all, intact most CDS mixes were not 5.1 but more 4.0

Yeah, but nevermind the others, I'm talking about T2 specifically. The same could be said regarding 6-track, usually 4.0, but there are some with .1 and even some with stereo surround. But here, for T2, it’s apparently the equivalent of 5.1 for both formats, hence my interrogation of 2 mixes or the same mix simply delivered in 2 different ways, magnetically and digitally.

Or could it be that both the CDS mix and the 6-track mix derive from the same artistic mix, but were both processed and adjusted differently considering the capabilities and limitations of both formats, magnetic and digital? That seems like a plausible scenario. And that could explain the LD being healthier being derived from the mature analogue 6-track workflow (1998), when the juvenile digital workflow (1997) derived from CDS introduced a mastering error for the DVDs and subsequent Blu-rays.

Depending on the intended technical use, there should be two different mixes for sure. I also consider it a advantage that the Live dvd offers alternative lfe options Smile The mix for the dvd is a digital mastering transfer. No background noise was detected using iZotope RX; it is a very clean and dynamic mix. Due to the fact that the dialogue and certain sound effects occasionally sound a bit harsh, one can even gather that this mix was designed for larger auditoriums.

This is all confusing and makes it difficult to label each track prior to the 5.1-EX/ES remix. In the end, I'll probably include all of them in my ongoing project instead of choosing the "best" one which nobody agrees on. Include them all will cover the full spectrum. I'll simply label them with the physical media source each are taken from.

The True Lies cinema dts track might also be a 70mm 6-track stereo mix. I have both the ld ac3 5.1 and cinema dts copies.

For "True Lies", we've had the actual theatrical DTS taken from the CD-Rom for awhile now. For this one, we know the source for sure. What's on the LD is another question, though.

Last year i analyzed the center channels of the t2 live dvd and True Lies cinema dts mix and i remember the integrated lufs levels being quite similar Smile I'll need to check again sometime.

That's kinda what I was getting at, CDS could do more, but they may not have been able/known a way to make it do those things

The LD AC-3 for True Lies is a slight remix for home media. The Theatrical 5.1 mix was shared across DTS, Dolby Digital, and 70mm Six-Track. On home media it was used on the D-Theater (at full rate), US DVD (in AC-3), and DTS LD (also at full rate). IMO the D-Theater/DTS LD sounds the best as it's sourced from the original digital master with the least compression.

Sadly you can’t really do something like this for T2, I would assume they did the same for it but there's no way of knowing 100%
