Dirty Harry remixes
#1
would like to get ahold of the original tracks for the dirty harry series - they have been ruined with fake sounding modern effects
don't think any laserdiscs have the mono versions but I think the earlier digital releases are just reprocessed for stereo without new SFX so they can be downmixed to mono. early 90's VHS tapes also have reprossed for stereo versions

magnum force with original SFX

same goes with the any which way you can movies

This has been discussed before, Dirty Harry's original mono mix was only on the earliest laserdisc in analogue audio (with pan and scan video):

All other subsequent releases were 'processed for stereo' or worse.

Don't know if audio tracks this release (http://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/05877/1361...Collection) have been "processed" for stereo, as they are not noted as surround.

Knowing how lazy the studio are, and well known to cut the costs wherever possible, I suspect they maybe had duplicate the mono, hence having a dual mono track - but the word STEREO helped to sell more, at least at the time!

Pretty sure WB didn't mess with the audio in the early stereo remixes , there's a laserdisc available in PCM. don't think the SFX were replaced till the Clint Eastwood collection  came out in early 2000. Was thinking of buying the orginal VHS tapes myself but I don't want to deal with tracking noise ruining it.

think even clint eastwood himself said he hated the remixes

I went ahead and bought this LD http://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/09095/12483/Dirty-Harry might be stereo but doesn't mean the sound effects are different. Can't hurt to try. Smile I hope it has a digital track but lddb.com isn't always correct.

likely the original mix. I owned a late 90's VHS and it had the original audio just in stereo

They say it's the old mono reprocessed to should be good! Just don't get the LD box set as that mix was already sounding the same as the later 5.1 mix with botched tracks where the music cues disappears.

I have only that one... so, I'm out of the games! Happy
