Well yeah, but you also changed the search mode from fulltext to standard, which is way worse. Take a look at this, when searching for "D-VHS", standard mode gives 18 results, while fulltext returns 32, all of them accurate. https://i.imgur.com/rgxw0a1.png https://i.imgur.com/lImuvWf.png https://i.imgur.com/wbelsDm.png Is this worth being able to search for a keyword containing one character less? In my opinion, no

There are pros and cons... I think there are no many search terms with only three characters, so the fulltext, albeit using four chars, is better. There is always the google search, after all!
Maybe a poll can be useful!

Ooh, that's how you did it ... how about the following then:
if(strlen($searchterm)>3) { fulltext blah blah } else { string search blah blah }

Lol that's totally fair I guess
In that case I'd probably go back to fulltext as the current search doesnt work for multiple terms

That would be my preference too, unless someone REALLY needs to have 3 character search limit

Reverted to full text search - and 4 chars minimum - but left the 10 seconds limit, instead 30. This is because I don't see the point to allow 3 chars search, when you can't search more than one word...
Cool. I have noted though that when you log in and watch the new posts searchs, any posts made during those 10/15mn you spend looking at new posts, disappear as the forum assume you are aware of them. So when you get back and hit new posts again, you will not see those new posts made from the last time you searched new posts, only new posts made from the last time you logged off.
For this reason I use today posts as to be sure I'm not missing anything. Weird forum quirk. Also If I may suggest could everyone get a nice custom avatar? That would help us differentiate people as the built-in forum avatars all look the same. |
