Legacy Of Rage Laserdisc Audio + Bluray Sync issues
#1
I am trying to sync the laserdisc audio (Taiseng) with the GB remastered bluray as that only has the 5.1 remix.

The issue I am having is that the Laserdisc audio will sync to one part then become out of sync after a while. Another user (made a thread in the wrong area) suggested the Laserdisc might be PAL.

Here is the media info. I have run into this issue with the past but never seem to get around it.

The Tai Seng LD may be NSTC but the transfer used on it is probably field blended 25fps. Its possible the source (if PAL 25fps based) had pitch correction done to hide the higher pitch difference.

I converted the file to match the frame and bit rate and had to slow it down a tad and it matched about 90% some areas were still off by a few seconds tho. I'm not 100% sure if I am doing it right, however.

The original audio needs to be in sync with the original video.
Once you do that, it will be easy for you to match the original to the new video by syncing video and filling in the gaps.

Absolutely do not, never, make hundred cuts in your audio to match the 5.1. This is not right. Visual sync is your savior.

One nice way to do it is you take the visuals of the audio you want to sync, and you use shot detect in Resolve.
Then also use shot detect in Resolve with the new HD video. Then marry both sources to their respective audio.

Place the original on top of the new. Sync the first shot. It will be obvious right away when there is a sync problem and shots start to not line up. All you have to do then is adjust.

Still having some issues. I found a DVD on ebay that states it has the original Cantonese audio so hopefully, that works. Unfortunately that means I'm still stuck with the issue when I capture the original English dub and commentary track

The laserdisc audio (issues aside) will probably still be of a higher quality than the DVD audio. It may be also that the LD has more frames than the blu-ray. Do you have a capture of the video from the LD?

I do, I used a DVD recorder to rip the laserdisc on DVD

That should be helpful in regards to syncing at the very least. I wish I could be more helpful in finding out what this issue might be but without the materials it's hard for me to take a stab at what it could be.

I'll see if I have the same issue with the DVD (possible it uses the same source that Tai Seng used) but I thank you for the input that you have provided thus far

So the DVD I got doesn't have the original audio. I tried syncing the laserdisc audio to the SHOUT! DVD and had the same problem as I did with the Bluray. If anyone can help I can send the audio, and you can try to sync with DVD or Bluray (whichever you have).
