AVC, yes. It's for a re-encode because I also recreated Italian theatrical credits but I wonder if Univrsal might be interested in using my patches.
How do you replace bad frames without reencoding?

You could do the same with replacing the credits.

Basically, you can't exactly replace a frame without reencoding, BUT you can use something called "smart rendering" which only re-encodes the parts/GOPs that have changed and 1:1 copies the rest. So, the replaced frame and the frames in the same GOP would be reencoded but most other frames would just copy the data.

I believe TMPGEnc has a product called TMPGEnc Smart Renderer that does exactly this. I think there's also some freeware that does it, and I hear VideoRedo also does it.

IIRC there is another software I'm aware that does the same, and it is free AFAIK: SolveigMM AVI trimmer

Every time I say "this is the laaaast time!" but I have plenty of stuff to work on, unfortunately for the board it's mostly Italian restorations, Buck included. And I'm still waiting for fiber optics to reach me .

For now I plan to keep on re-encoding (I limit myself to one and only one re-encode), so far it has always been 90-something minutes films on a very slow 2-pass encode and quality didn't really lose anything visible, obviously it would save a lot of hours not having to re-encode anything but I don't know what kind of learning curve TMPGEnc Smart Renderer might require and I'm always doubtful of freewares so I let you guys experiment on these promising programs
