3D Open Matte

Hi guys

is it posibble to revise a letterboxed 3D-Movie in a Open Matte 3D-Movie?

For example Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead men tell no tales.

We have a letterboxed 3D movie and a open matte 2D Version.
So we have a open matte and letterboxed Picture for every eye.
That doesen´t work, right?

Maybe it exist different Open Matte Versions with different anglesr?

The chances of this are probably pretty slim, unless someone develops an AI that does this kind of thing or you invest thousands of hours basically re-creating the 3D of the Open Matte.

In case of Pirates of Caribbean does exist a open matte 3D version, because the movie was released in IMAX 3D.
But i don´t think this Version will shown in the TV

There is a really remote chance that one open matte broadcast would use the other "eye"...

No, I'm sure it exists. Same with Terminator 2. But as you say, I doubt you will ever get access to it, also seeing how 3D is hardly that popular anymore.

For 2-D to 3-D converted titles which is almost everything now a days, the chances are almost zero.

For 3-D conversion, typically new left and right eye viewpoints are made. One eye may bear a closer resemblance to the original 2-D than the other, but still has manipulations, as well as sometimes having an occasional extra layer of particulates (sparks, snow, rain, debries, etc) that are not in the 2-D version.

Native (actually shot in 3-D) titles often have subtle grading differences, further adjustments, and/or stereo floating windows. So studio inventory would be L/R 3-D and 2-D versions. 

3-D titles from the 80s may offer a tad more luck.  I know Friday the 13th part III used sections of different eye sides for different transfers.

So, if the Chance is almost Zero, there must be an other solution.

Maybe there ist a way for a hybrid Version?

The open matte part 2D and the rest 3D. For the crossing maybe a little bit transparency (if that was posibble).
