I have a couple LDrips (including the one that was on the spleen) and unfortunately they both have very lossy tracks (one has an mp3 track @ ~125kbps VBR and the other is a 192kbps AC3 track) That REALLY SUX about your HDDs and I feel your pain cuz it's happened to me before. I am happy to share stuff you lost if I have it, so feel free to PM me (2015-12-08, 06:00 PM)jolennon Wrote: By the way, looks like we'll be able to get the DTS mix Thanx, can't believe I missed that one. It looks like it was found a couple years ago and there was suppose to be some project that was going to use it, but I have never seen anything like that surface anywhere. However, I have sent a PM to JetrellFo asking if he can share the track even if it's unsynced. The only way to preserve the quality after doing syncing work on it is to re-encode it into a lossless DTS-HDMA track, which is what I would do. Thanks given by: jolennon

JetrellFo answered said pm and has said he will share it with jerry once he decodes it to wav format so it can be edited and synced properly.

If I may interject, the OAR is not technically 1.66:1, but 1.85:1, which is how the film was projected in theaters. The negative ratio probably was 1.66:1, like BATB and Aladdin. Also, the HDTV versions, AFAIK, were all 1.78:1, like the BD, and only the first DVD was in 1.66:1. In my opinion, more grain does not necessarily mean more detail, and while the original opening and closing fanfares are welcome, I still believe that the BD is the best video transfer because of the colors and overall look. As for the sound, I will not argue about the LD PCM and 1997 DTS mix being best, as the 7.1 has not been mastered properly, with some highs being slightly distorted, and the DEHT mix is best not talked about.

Well, this one I was seven when it came out in theaters so I can't claim to remember the aspect ratio, even though I saw it a few times, LOL
I was always under the impression that the OAR was 1.66 and this might just be because of the first edition DVDs (although the R1 was non-anamorphic versus the R2 release) and me getting used to seeing that "extra" image in the frame. If I'm wrong about the AR here then, my bad. I believe that on one of my external HDDs I have a 1.66 720p HDTVrip (with a russian/ukranian station logo) somewhere but I need to verify this. To a degree I will agree with you that grain, (in some cases, but NOT all) only gives an illusion of detail, however if the grain has been DNR'ed, there is a strong possibility that so has some of the fine detail, which is why I usually prefer to go with a grain-rich, unfiltered source over anything else (with some exceptions, of course) I need to go back through the BD and make comparisons to all the HDTV copies I have... if what you say is true about the superior video transfer of the BD, then a "hybrid" could be made restoring the parts that the BD got wrong with HDTV elements and syncing the LD PCM and the 1997 DTS mix to it, as well as the 1998 5.1 AC3 mix from the first DVD release. The 7.1 mix is a straight joke, not as bad as the atrocious DEHT mix, but it's close and spread across more channels (in this case proving that more is not always better)

I'd never before considered that the audio mix could change from release to release (although in retrospect Star Wars should have clued me in). His replacement for the first in the two-disc Platinum release was wonderful. I don't watch it anymore because of the higher resolution of the Blu-ray, but it's still kept in an envelope inside the Platinum's case. That memory being so strong, what has become of this project? I'd love to someday see a BD equivalent to Doctor M's work.

Hello, I'm looking for the 1999 DVD. Could someone send me a digital copy please? If this is not possible, I would be content with the French track

I think the 1999 DVD is on rutracker, but I don't know which audio tracks are available

Since this thread came up again and considering the sort of recent UHD release, has the LD PCM been synced to the BD?
Having read the whole thread I understood it was captured, but it was not really clear if it was synced. I have compared the BD 7.1 and UHD 7.1-Atmos and the tracks and the good news is that they are in sync. So, if the track has been made to fit the BD, it should work on the recent UHD as well. It would be a wonderful addition to it. |
