In fact, someone posted a better LDRip (compared to the older one)on spleen, which was deleted because it's Disney...
but I don't remember which audio format it had annnnnd I lost the file because two of my three HDD broke down and I lost lots of movies Sad

No worries, never hurts to ask. I have a couple LDrips (including the one that was on the spleen) and unfortunately they both have very lossy tracks (one has an mp3 track @ ~125kbps VBR and the other is a 192kbps AC3 track)
That REALLY SUX about your HDDs and I feel your pain cuz it's happened to me before. I am happy to share stuff you lost if I have it, so feel free to PM meWink

Thanx, can't believe I missed that one. It looks like it was found a couple years ago and there was suppose to be some project that was going to use it, but I have never seen anything like that surface anywhere. However, I have sent a PM to JetrellFo asking if he can share the track even if it's unsynced. The only way to preserve the quality after doing syncing work on it is to re-encode it into a lossless DTS-HDMA track, which is what I would do.

JetrellFo answered said pm and has said he will share it with jerry once he decodes it to wav format so it can be edited and synced properly.

Greatly appreciate this one guys!

This thread has mainly been about the audio (namely the LD PCM audio) but the topic of the video has been brought up too. Although I agree with people that, for the most part, the most recent BD release is relatively decent in terms on colors and hasn't been scrubbed (DNR'ed) too much (as is evident by some, but just some, grain remaining) HOWEVER, it is NOT OAR (original aspect ratio is 1.66 and this is cropped to 1.78 to fit nicely on 16x9 displays) even though not much is cropped (but still, point remains) the HDTV transfer has more grain (even taking into account the compression, which in the case of the "best" [read: highest bitrate] transfer in actually not bad and there are a couple different 1080i sources floating around which is evident by different placement of disney-cinemagic logo) AND the HDTV transfers have the original intro logo AND original intro credits which HAVE been modified for the BD transfer, while the HDTV retains the original which makes me think that it's from an older transfer before Disney "botched" it (similar to SitS which I used for my project)

I intend on doing a custom release on TLM using the HDTV elements (similar to what I did with SitS which came out fantastic) and syncing the LD PCM to it.

If I may interject, the OAR is not technically 1.66:1, but 1.85:1, which is how the film was projected in theaters. The negative ratio probably was 1.66:1, like BATB and Aladdin.
Also, the HDTV versions, AFAIK, were all 1.78:1, like the BD, and only the first DVD was in 1.66:1.
In my opinion, more grain does not necessarily mean more detail, and while the original opening and closing fanfares are welcome, I still believe that the BD is the best video transfer because of the colors and overall look.

As for the sound, I will not argue about the LD PCM and 1997 DTS mix being best, as the 7.1 has not been mastered properly, with some highs being slightly distorted, and the DEHT mix is best not talked about.

Well, this one I was seven when it came out in theaters so I can't claim to remember the aspect ratio, even though I saw it a few times, LOL Big Grin

I was always under the impression that the OAR was 1.66 and this might just be because of the first edition DVDs (although the R1 was non-anamorphic versus the R2 release) and me getting used to seeing that "extra" image in the frame. If I'm wrong about the AR here then, my bad.

I believe that on one of my external HDDs I have a 1.66 720p HDTVrip (with a russian/ukranian station logo) somewhere but I need to verify this. To a degree I will agree with you that grain, (in some cases, but NOT all) only gives an illusion of detail, however if the grain has been DNR'ed, there is a strong possibility that so has some of the fine detail, which is why I usually prefer to go with a grain-rich, unfiltered source over anything else (with some exceptions, of course) I need to go back through the BD and make comparisons to all the HDTV copies I have... if what you say is true about the superior video transfer of the BD, then a "hybrid" could be made restoring the parts that the BD got wrong with HDTV elements and syncing the LD PCM and the 1997 DTS mix to it, as well as the 1998 5.1 AC3 mix from the first DVD release. The 7.1 mix is a straight joke, not as bad as the atrocious DEHT mix, but it's close and spread across more channels (in this case proving that more is not always better)

It was Doctor M's comments that caused me to hang onto that original TLM DVD instead of giving it (as I had the VHS) to a family member for their enjoyment. I'd never before considered that the audio mix could change from release to release (although in retrospect Star Wars should have clued me in).

His replacement for the first in the two-disc Platinum release was wonderful. I don't watch it anymore because of the higher resolution of the Blu-ray, but it's still kept in an envelope inside the Platinum's case.

That memory being so strong, what has become of this project?

I'd love to someday see a BD equivalent to Doctor M's work.

@ Andrea - well... hmmm... I guess you are spoiling the "surprise" I have, LOL... I am aware that there are two different HDTV rips, both struck from the same master but one (an NTSC copy) is a 1080p AVC @ 13mbps .ts file (~8gb), that doesn't contain a logo, and the other is a 1080i (PAL copy) AVC @10.8mbps .mkv(~6.5gb) with a nasty disney cinemagic logo in the lower bottom corner. Both are decent copies by themselves but they also both contain a certain amount of macroblocking, lack detail in different areas of the frame (which can be fixed by way of layering) and have occasional softness issues that can be slightly fixed. the copy with the logo (although of lower bitrate) still has a little bit of grain left in-tact. the master that both of these HDTV copies was struck from is identical (has exact same "flaws" on same frames and is framed the same way, which makes layering the sources really easy) but I have to de-interlace and slow down the PAL 1080i copy first. The color palette of this copy is different from any commercially released DVD or BD and has a striking resemblance to the VHS/LD colors and, therefore, closer to the theatrical version.

While I am still working on my other projects, recently my wife found my old 1999 NTSC DVD of the movie and let my kids watch it which got me thinking about this as a project that my daughters could enjoy. I'm sure there are others that would enjoy it too and I wanted to include the LD PCM audio for the "full experience." As far as the video is concerned, I am now doing some extensive research, including looking at my 1990 original release VHS tape, and comparing it to the color palette on the HDTV copy. Most of it is really close or needs just a minor color-grading adjustment. I know a lot of people might say that the new BD release is decent for the video, and although I would agree that's it's the best we've seen so far, it's still not accurate. For those interested, I am happy to share links to some of the comparisons that I have found (some of which show the VHS, old DVD, new DVD, and the BD) It's amazing to see how much Disney has botched ALL of the digital releases. The new one is closest, but it still has it's flaws. These flaws are not really present in the HDTV broadcasts which makes me wonder where the hell they got the master for it. There is a certain "natural" vibrancy to the picture of the HDTV that looks "artificial" on the BD. Unfortunately, the audio of the HDTV broadcast for the 1080i copy is a crappy DEHT re-mix which was by far the worst remix for this movie. The panning of all of the dialog (including during musical sequences) very strongly on ALL front channels completely ruining the experience. Interestingly, the 1080p NSTC broadcast comes with a stereo audio track. I will be testing it against the audio from the VHS tape and see if it sounds similar or if it's just a crappy downmix of the 5.1 (also easy to confirm by just downmixing the 5.1 audio tracks I already have for this movie) I would love it if it was the original mix, but don't want to get my hopes upWink
can you upload 1080p 8gb ts file on mega?

Hello, I'm looking for the 1999 DVD. Could someone send me a digital copy please? If this is not possible, I would be content with the French track

Since this thread came up again and considering the sort of recent UHD release, has the LD PCM been synced to the BD?

Having read the whole thread I understood it was captured, but it was not really clear if it was synced.

I have compared the BD 7.1 and UHD 7.1-Atmos and the tracks and the good news is that they are in sync. So, if the track has been made to fit the BD, it should work on the recent UHD as well. It would be a wonderful addition to it.
