Is this true?  I've never compared to know, but haven't seen anyone point this out before.

Yeah, someone over on forum.blu-ray.com did some comparisons awhile ago and found out it was a poor conversion seemingly from the NTSC version.
But I'm not sure if that's the case for the widescreen PAL seasons.
