[Help] display colors are "wrong"

Few days ago Colson did this comparison:

and I thought: "well, yes, it's from DCP, so details should be better... yet, snow is not blue, but green..."
Then, today, watching the same comparison on my phone, snow is not green anymore, but white!

AFAIK my display (UHD FALD) was well calibrated... so, now, I am asking myself: is it NOT well calibrated - and colors are wrong? Or the phone display the colors wrongly, and the DCP snow is indeed green?

This is a VERY important question... because, if the former is true, all my projects are at risk of being wrong, color wise!

Back home... memory works strangely - a lot!

Yes, the snow has a very slight green cast - I mean it, really slight, even if noticeable to my eyes - but my memory exagerated it (again, A LOT!)

Changing image modes, snow turns white(ish), blue(ish) and so on... so, the problem remains... is my calibration wrong or not? How to set up the white balance 100% without a probe (if it is possible)? Because if, even reaching, let's say, 99% of right white balance, if that 1% leads me to see white green (or blue, or red), that 1% error margin is too big!

Just tried this: half screen pure white ($FFFFFF) and other half not pure...
I can't discern differences with $FFFEFE or $FEFFFE or $FEFEFF, but I can (even if barey) with $FFFDFD, $FDFFFD, $FDFDFF...

Also, I tried a color picker Android free app: useless! It is always balanced (according to him) even changing image mode - that turned pure white in blueish, greenish, reddish etc.

So, maybe I should stop worring about color balance - that I *think* (or, I hope) is *pretty much* accurate.
Problem is, some eventual subtle restoration could be avoided at all, just changing image mode (or more display settings)... or not?

If you want perfect calibration, you will need to get yourself one of those calibration devices afaik, I think you can get some decent ones around 100 EUR or so.

Also need to take care of how you take your screenshots bc of YUV<->RGB conversions and the matrix coefficients. I haven't figured it out fully myself, but MPC-HC for example seems to do weird stuff.

Lastly, if your jpg/png file is anything but standard sRGB with default gamma, it may show wrong in a browser, because most browsers don't do color management afaik. So for example a photo saved as ProPhotoRGB will appear more pale/low contrast in a browser due to the wider colorspace.

For my projects, I always take screenshots directly from VDub. I'm 99.99% sure they are right!

Nice! I've started doing that as well, it's handy indeed. (with AViSynth+ and VirtualDub FilterMod you can even do 16bit TIF screenshots). Though I noticed it seems you have to convert to RGB in AviSynth with something like ConvertToRGB(matrix="Rec709") before doing the screenshots in VDub, or they will come out wrong.

Well, converting BD (and all YV12 video) to RGB should be wrong, as it is supposed to be displayed YV12... or not?
