[Proposal] Regrading "The Silence of the Lambs", toying with the curves
#1
Hey, guys.

No promises, but I'm trying this. The whole idea started in this thread: https://fanrestore.com/thread-1921.html?...+the+lambs

Using a French tutorial YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzRik0z...zPxP1bSXyg) for DaVinci Resolve and an early 90s VHS that apparently uses the same old transfer as this clip I found on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0A-1gbJzdU) as color reference, I have started to regrade the movie. Why using the VHS instead of the old Criterion DVD? Because it's a better reference to try to replicate the color timing of a 35mm print, like the one I had the chance to see about a year, a year and a half ago. Not an easy job to learn from scratch, pals! So here I am, toying with the curves...

Interesting. There's also some 35mm pics from eBay in that thread I think, maybe you could also use those for reference somehow.

I know. I'm the one who posted them and made the comparisons. That also helped me to go in favor of the VHS instead of the Criterion DVD.

I must admit, I like the increased blues as well as the fact that you're learning how to properly take advantage of Resolve's tool set, but a small question: Are the eyes meant to be that blue?

Happy to see this project!

An hint: skin was too yellow before, but now is a bit too pink... try to depink it slightly.

And blue eyes: I think Jodie's eyes are gorgeous - dunno if so blue, but love them!

This, of course, is preliminary. As I said, I'm learning. I don't know if her eyes should be that blue, but gorgeous they are indeed. It might very well be too pink, too. Again, I'm learning and I was aiming at getting something closer to the early 90s VHS grading that also resembles the one of the late 90s Criterion DVD which both showed pinker cheeks, and some purple on the back wall. It is very possible that I went too far with the color boost, though. So this is where I'm at right now:
