Hong Kong Rescue #1: Hard Boiled
#21
A 35mm for Bullet in the Head is interesting too.

msp also mentioned (on OT, I think) that he had a version of John Woo's festival cut that had been telecined onto VHS. Makes me wonder how that one would have looked compared to the bootleg that circulates.

Just remembered there was a FanRes project for the movie that tried to recreate the movie uncut. I wonder if any of those who were working on it / interested in it would feel about the 35mm prospect. 4K print scan to work with (rather than an SD upscale) that'd likely include the burned-in English subtitles in high quality (rather than the VHS & LD sources) given it's a dubbed print.

I think think the bootleg is the msp capture.

Ive contacted Iceprick about this.
Ive no money or time to handle this by myself, so I'm putting the feelers out to see what others think.

Id honestly much prefer a Bullet In the Head preservation, as Hard Boiled at least has a decent HD scan.

It's nothing really and happened over a number of years.
There was nothing done to me spitefully.
I just like credit where credit is due.
I wasn't going to say anything this public about it as it seems pretty petty, but I had to be honest also.

That'd make sense. I'd always heard that it was a recording of the projection itself, or something along those lines.

I'd recommend hitting it up with Williarob sometime as well about it. I wouldn't mind to help you though with the preservation / restoration in the scenario it get funded and scanned but lack the time to work with the material. As for money, I suppose that's what fundraising threads are for eh? I mean, I've seen a fair bit of interest in the movie with good reasoning as to why it should get scanned (no proper HD source and the print is supposedly in mint condition), so I'm sure with time and patience it'll eventually get crowdfunded.

I'd be happy to contribute to fundraising (and I'll contact a few people outside of the forum who might) but as for a preservation I'd be happy to help if I could where possible.

So....
I'm going to back out of organizing / preserving Bullet in the Head.
I seriously have no time for anything else other than whats going on in my personal life.

I don't even get time to watch whole films these days!
I realized last night when I managed to watch the whole of Wolf, that Id not managed to watch a film in it's entirety in the past 3 month's (and that was only because Id had a half day at work).

I'm happy to contribute.

So looks like HKR bit the dust now.....guess that Bullet To The Head restoration is going nowhere.
