After you own an ST60 it's hard to make the switch to another TV. Probably only OLED
Only my point of view but I think Panasonic ST60 beats Sony's 4K 950 model picture quality when viewing 1080p content.

As promised, I brang... brung... bringed (whatever is right) the Pioneer to the new house, connected to the Philips media player, and wow! Black level, albeit not perfect, is muuuch better than Panasonic! But strangely it lose something on the borders, around 2% each; AFAIK it's possible to set the overscan to zero on normal menu, and I'm pretty sure if it is, previous owner did not do that... let's wait for the remote!
General quality seems higher than Panasonic, but I did not compared them side by side; maybe I'll do, but I have to move one to another floor, so it won't be soon. Without remote, no chance to adjust even the easiest setting, still reading "1080p" and "36 bit" is rewarding!

Don't worry about it there's plenty of native speakers who say 'brought' (as in to bring) instead of 'bought' (as in to buy).

I remember the Panasonic plasmas had a "it's not a bug it's a feature" where the black level would slowly get worse over time, which put me off of buying one. Thankfully it seems that someone enabled a hack to fix this, but doesn't look like it's something for the non-technically inclined: http://panasonic.mironto.sk/

I just wish I could solve the audio sync issue and figure out why it made my speaker coils go out.

Reading everything, now I understand why the Panasonic plasma I bought some years ago had "lighter" blacks than what I read online...  Back to my Pioneer 5080XA: still waiting the remote, but I wanted to take a look at some test patterns, just out of curiosity. Overscan is almost exactly 2.5% for each side. Playing a 1pixel black/1pixel white grid (horizontal and vertical) in this mode lead to different thick lines that "slowly slide"... difficult to explain, but they move, instead of being steady; the same happened when I had my old Samsung FALD - but that was 1:1 pixel mapping... mystery! Resolution wise, it seems very very good; even with overscan, perceived resolution seems fullHD... the processor was really valid at the time. A full black screen (during the day, without direct daylight) is still not pitch black, yet if I play a letterbox movie, the black bars seems considerably darker. Uniformity is great, but there is a faint burn in on the bottom left, noticeable with a complete red screen; most probably it will not be possible to delete it completely, but who knows? Let's talk about it in few months, after I'll put this set on regular use. Did not spot any dead pixel. The plasma "buzzing" is noticeable in particular when playing single color screens - and it change tone for any color, being very faint with grey for example; not noticeable at all when there is some sound. All in all, a very nice set that is screaming "calibrate me!!!" Thanks given by: alexpeden2000
