List of BDs sourced 16/35mm theatrical prints
#1
I imagine there's quite a ton of them out there, mainly more obscure and cult films. Though here's some off the top of my head:

Snappy Video BD of Dracula and His Vampire Bride.

Dark Star (Bryanston Pictures logo suggests a faded 35mm blowup print was used and then sandblasted with degraining).

The Last Valley (IP was in abysmal shape and Kino reportedly used two different 35mm prints, one from the BFI and another being Joe Dante's personal copy).

Umbrella BD of Body Melt (their 4k transfer was based on a battered 35mm Aussie release print that rights holder Beyond Entertainment had. Vinegar Syndrome later found the 16mm OCN somewhere in Canada and did a 2k scan/restoration of that. Their transfer was used on the VS Blu as well as the UK/German BDs).

The Man From Hong Kong.

Japanese Extended cut of Police Story (found on the Eureka UK Blu as an extra).

Hong Kong theatrical cut of Police Story II (found on the Criterion Collection Blu as an extra).

The Leg Fighters.

Dynamo, known as Bu Ze Shou Duan (both HK and shorter cuts are sourced from a combination of various theatrical prints and one loaned from Quentin Tarantino's personal collection).

Japanese extended cut of Heart of the Dragon, titled The First Mission (can be seen in it's entirety on the Japanese Shochiku Blu. Note the UK 88 Films Blu has this version reconstructed with bulk coming from Fortune Star remastered footage of the HK theatrical cut).

Japanese extended cuts of Fists of Fury, Way of the Dragon, and Game of Death (the former two are only complete on the Japanese BDs as extras, while the US Shout Factory Blus have the latter in full as an extra).

German BD of The Reflecting Skin (comes from German dubbed and localized 35mm theatrical print).

German BD of One Eyed Jacks (WARNING: horrible PAL DVD upscale from battered French theatrical print).

German Blu-ray of BLUE STEEL appears to be off a print and it looks pretty rough. Still enjoyed it, though, bit naff but had a good time hahah.

The Final Terror was lost until Shout scanned a bunch of theatrical prints to release it.

"In July 2014, Shout! Factory subsidiary Scream Factory released the film in a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack, which contains the R-rated version. Accordingly, the film had lost all of the original negative and inner-positive are all lost and Scream Factory went through six film prints lent by film collectors to deliver the best looking reels for the combo pack."

If I'm not mistaken, both the Concorde and StudioCanal Blus use the same transfer, which are more likely off an IP or an Interneg. Both look rough as they're prolly on older HD master Lionsgate provided them

Might be, it was a while ago I watched it but it looked really ropey... not just in terms of compression / edge enhancement and all that shenanigans, I could've sworn there was print damage etc. I'd need to check it again though.

Whaaaaaat? I have this on my wishlist to get despite the lackluster reviews and source issues but they used a copy from Joe Dante? And here I thought I couldn't love the guy any more than I already did!!!!

There's a number of classic era titles that use fine grains and prints but I can't remember off the top of my head.

Last Valley looks quite good considering it's sources, although a bit yellow, dirty, and wobbly at places. KLI had mentioned back in the Kino Lorber BD.com thread when people were asking if the release was still on or now.

Yes, there are several 1930s-1950s titles that use fine grains. But FGs are basically like a black and white IP or Interneg, not quite release prints.

Also, updates on more titles that use theatrical release prints:

Shout BD of The Plague Dogs (US PG-13 cut is sourced from an IP while the uncut version is sourced from the directors personal copy, reportedly a 35mm UK release print)

Umbrella BD of Hostage (sourced from directors personal copy, likely being a overseas 35mm print), known in the US as a shortened version called Savage Attraction (Code Red release uses an IP of this shortened version from the Lakeshore archives)

Kino/Horizon Movies BD of Santa Claus Conquers the Martians (uses a 35mm 1967 reissue print for the bulk, and a 16mm TV print for missing/damaged sections)

MVD Blu of Savannah Smiles

Kino/Code Red BDs of The Hot Touch, Being Different, Lord Shango, Necromancy (look to be sourced from faded release or archival prints)

Kino/Scorpion BD of City on Fire (see above)

I believe several lesser known titles Arrow Films and Vinegar Syndrome released were sourced from a combination of theatrical and archival prints. I know Arrow's BD of Hitch Hike to Hell is one that comes to mind.

Useful bump: The Umbrella Australian BD of Hellraiser IV: Bloodline uses what appears to be a 35mm international release print. The recently released German 4k UHD also uses a 35mm theatrical print... DNR'd up the a$$ and contrast blown beyond the infinite!
