The Sound of Music (1965) DVD 2002 audios synced to Blu-ray

English (Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround) Synced to 50th Anniversary Blu-ray

English (Dolby Digital "4.1") Synced to 50th Anniversary Blu-ray

From DVDCompare...

"Notes
- ABOUT THE AUDIO: There are some mixed reports, but the audio seems to be 4.1, which means that there are 3 discrete audio signals (left/center/right) with mono audio signal for the rear speakers. So the DVD player probably list this as 5.1. Also, the R1, R2 UK and R4 releases also include a 2.0 stereo track. The R2 Holland releases however do not."

So the 2002 DVD is L/C/R and mono surrounds. Whether that is called 4.1 I dont know, there is no LFE channel. But I have confirmed the surrounds is mono, but on 40th Anni the surrounds slightly stereo.

So I think 2002 DVD is more accurate to 70mm 6 track mix. Both have directional dialogue, but 2002 has the apron slap sound. 40th Anni has reaches slightly higher frequencies.

I believe 2002 DVD is just a reissue of disc1 of Five Star edition so should be the same. Whats strange though is specs on the back cover say 4.1 but its actually 5.1. It still has the apron slap sound and directional dialogue though.

Thanks a lot, NeonBible.

  • Language : English (Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround), English (Dolby Digital "4.1")

DVD 2002 = 5.0 inside 5.1 container (silent LFE channel).

Funny thing is on the DVD menu of 2002 it says 4.1 still!

The 2.0 should still maintain the 70mm mix with a phantom centre channel.

Actually I think the 2.0 is the same as the laserdisc.

Likely to the be the exact same mix as Five Star/2002 DVD but of course lossless PCM!

Thanks again, NeonBible.

Thanks sertoli for syncing these.

Does anyone have the 30th anniversary LaserDisc? https://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/05295/426...ry-Edition

This should be the same 70mm mix but in PCM Dolby Surround.
