Say Anything... (1989) PCM from VHS

Or laser, that works, too. Anyone have this they could share?  The Blu-ray has a Dolby surround track, but I’m 99% sure it’s just a downmix of the 5.1 track.

Say Anything is a Fox movie, so i'm 100 percent sure that its the original Theatrical Audio mix on the disc. They often put the original audio on their DVD's and Blu Ray from the very beginning of the format/

And as I said, I'm almost certain it is not.  I'd at least like to have the track from the VHS or laser to compare.  Gun to my head, I'd swear it wasn't the original mix but a downmix of the 5.1 track, regardless of Fox's track record. I can attest that the original mix of Romancing the Stone is ABSOLUTELY NOT on the Blu-ray, so this wouldn’t be without precedent.

well, looks like you have got to track down the early R1 DVD releases of Romancing the Stone and Say Anything. those are most likely the original mixes

Yep.  I've already synced the original RTS audio with the Blu-ray and it's amazing.  The widely available DVD of SA is the remix.  That's why I was seeing if anyone here happened to have an old copy of the VHS or laser, as PCM would be preferable to whatever low bitrate encode that was thrown on the DVD.  I can of course get an old VHS off of ebay, wait for shipping, and try ripping the audio myself (I also no longer have a VCR), but I thought that if someone here had it readily available, I would ask.  Isn't that kind of the point of this forum?

Since Fox weren't doing any serious ground up audio reworkings until later in the DVD era, I assume the 5.1 mix on the very first DVD is a discrete version of the Dolby Stereo LRCS mix (with L/R rears and possibly a generated LFE). The 5.1 on the 20th ann DVD and BD are probably based on a new mix made from the D/M/E master recordings.

Okay, I don’t believe that any of the DVD’s were the original mix, but I’ll grab a copy and confirm that. Should I be correct, I’ll still need the original mix from the VHS and/or laserdisc. If anyone reading this has an early release, an easy way to tell if the mix is original is that the remix has score playing for all of Lloyd and Diane’s walk home from the party, starting when he points out the glass. The original mix is silent for the walk until Diane hugs Lloyd.

I’ve confirmed that none of the DVD’s have the original VHS Dolby surround mix. If anyone has this on LD or VHS and could rip it, I would be incredibly grateful. I don’t have the ability to do either anymore.
