[Help] Can anyone do decent VHS transfers in UK?

Sorry if this is the wrong section. I was wondering if there is anyone here from the UK who is able to make high quality transfers from PAL VHS tapes? I'm wanting to transfer two (maybe three) retail tapes for an upcoming project but I only have a very basic VHS setup. There's a few commercial transfer services near me that I'll look into, but I doubt they'd be willing as these are retail tapes rather than home recordings.

Any help is appreciated.

I've got a pretty decent JVC deck with built in TBC that I've just started using recently. I've got it hooked up to my old PC with an Osprey PCIE card and then using VirtualDub for captures. I've not really tested it all properly yet but should get a chance over the next few weeks - will let you know how it goes, happy to help if it works.

If alexpenden2000 can't help I used this guy before, found him to be pretty reasonable compared to some others and he didn't have an issue with transferring retail tapes.

That sounds perfect. I'd been looking into buying a TBC JVC or Panasonic deck myself but I just can't justify the expense for a small handful of tapes.

I think for the future the highest quality option will likely be the Domesday duplicator with the vhs-decode software. They are making very decent progress on it. You basically capture the direct signal of the VHS and then decode it digitally. I have a VHS deck with which it might be possible but I have no capture device yet. The cheapest option appear to be so-called CX cards. Wanna try that someday. Doesn't seem too complicated tho, unless ur building the duplicator (its basically a higher quality capture than the CX cards but it might not matter for VHS much).

Agreed. There's a discord for it if anyone's curious, there they discuss the current progress and post samples etc.

Just to say I've managed to get set up for VHS captures successfully. The Osprey/VDub combo wouldn't sync the audio properly (despite trying every setting under the sun!)

Ended up using a Hauppage USB device with my laptop and AmaRecTV and it's working perfectly. Capturing to Lagarith AVI via SVHS. Let me know if you still want them captured HippieDalek.

Hi, sorry for the slow response. I've been a bit under the weather lately and I've let notifications and PMs pile up a bit. 

Well done getting your capture setup working! 

I think I've found someone nearby who will do the transfers for me, but if that falls through then I'll keep you in mind
