[Help] Jurassic Park 3 - Best Audio?
#1
After syncing the LD audio of TLW to the 4k blu-ray (replacing the pretty bad DTS:X remix) I'd like to do the same for JP 3. But since it was too new for a laserdisc release, I'm wondering what to use a source. I don't have the DVD to compare the DTS track, but I assume that's probably the closes to the theatrical mix that's out there. Is there some audio track from a release print or Cinema DTS version online I'm not aware of?

Any information would be helpful.

When I looked into this question not long ago I read that the DVD DTS was severely neutered and that the BD 7.1 DTS-HD track was the theatrical mix with the surrounds split to make up the extra channels.

The BD track syncs to the UHD with an offset of -959ms.

Best bet is probably the Cinema DTS discs

Is cinema DTS available for JP3? I'd be interested to compare it to the BD audio.

If it's true that the BD DTS-HD is the theatrical upmixed to 7.1 then the 5.1 DTS core from that track might be the closest thing to the true theatrical mix outside of cinema DTS.

Shame about the DVD.
I synced up the BD audio and doing some quick comparisons it does seem to be an improvement over the 4k DTS:X. Out of curiosity do you have a source on it being the theatrical?

Is it available anywhere? I'd love to check it out and get it synced to the 4k BD if anyone out there can provide it.

I think too that the Cinema DTS should be the best option BUT... there are DTS-ES and DD EX tracks on DVD... HENCE... it COULD BE possible that the original track was 6.1; in that case, the BD DTS-HD MA 7.1, IF it has the mono rear channels, could be faithful. In this case, the Cinema DTS should be encoded with the ES matrix.

Out of curiosity i checked the rear surrounds on the BD, they are NOT dual mono.

So, best option is Cinema DTS; if not available, the BD DTS-HD MA 7.1 - but it must be decided if mix the rear surround to one channel only, mix them to side surrounds, or discard them!

I've looked into this a little more. The best audio track I can find seems to be the AC-3 from the DVD. The BD 7.1 is a total remix. The DVD DTS has some horrendous roll-off, noise reduction and weaker LFE.

I have no idea how theatrical the AC-3 track is but it sounds great and has a 16khz line intact suggesting that it's been spared the NR treatment of its DTS counterpart. I've synced this track to the UHD. Contributing members PM me if interested.

Nice!
What's the bitrate on that ac3 track? Also which release did you pull it from?
