[Help] Sync audio to video (different fps and rips)
#1
Hello ya all,

I posted a similar question here a few months ago. Now things got a little more complicated.
I'm trying to sync an audio extracted from a NTSC video file (23,976 fps) to a PAL video (25 fps). To complicate things more, they're the same film, same cut, but different rips. The files don't start or end in the same spot.

So what I did this far: I extracted both audios, imported them to Adobe Premiere, synced them, exported the NTSC audio. Then I muxed the audio to the video file using MKVToolNix. It was perfectly in sync in the beginning but started to desync as the film went on. I converted the muxed mkv file to 25 fps using Handbrake, desync got a little better but it's still there.

Is there an easy way out of this?

What framerate do you want your final file to be?

Syncing isn't just adding a soundtrack to a video. They have match. You can do this by 3 options
- by ear
- viewing the waveforms
- match the video of your target to your source

In your case I would slow the 25fps video down to 23,976fps and open both files in a video editor. Then match the beginning, skim through the movie and look for drifts. Add a cut and move the video backwards or forwards to match again. Rinse and repeat.

Either, as long as it gets synced.

No easy way out then.
I'll try that. Thanks!

Don't speed up audio. Always see if you can slow video down.

As Bendermac says, best to slow the video (and it’s audio obviously!) then match the other audio file to it.

I’d use Audacity, free and pretty easy to get the hand of.

Not familiar with Audacity, I'll look into it. Does it support videos or can I only work with the audio?

Ok, so I converted the PAL file to 23,976 fps using Handbrake. Imported the file to Adobe Premiere along with the NTSC audio file and the desync got even worse. I sync the audio with the video, press play, a few seconds later the desync starts again. In the first method I did, the audio stayed in sync for a few minutes before the desync started.

You said you’ve slowed down the video file but have you also slowed the audio? Just changing the framerate won’t change the audio as far as I’m aware.
