So I noticed this week that T2 was available. To my surprise, it started with the old Tristar logo! There is definite grain in the image and to my eyes, looks pretty nice but feels like it’s some old master.
Anyone with more familiarity with the film care to chime in? I’ve got no way to capture it but if you HBO Max, take a peek!

Thanks for the Tip Boris, I'll check if it's available here in Brazil.
It may mean nothing for the casual movie viwer, but having the proper opening logos is adamant for purists.
And in the particular case of most Carolco movies, having them start with Studio Canal instead of TriStar is such a shame.

I saw that previously, both on HBOMax and a couple months ago on the US Netflix. Both had the Tristar logo. It appears to be the same master as the old (pre SC 4K remaster) to my eyes.
My best guess as to the Tristar logo being on there is that they (Tri/Sony) retain TV airing and streaming rights in the US whereas the home video rights were Live eventually ending up at Lionsgate?

Could this actually be the old, pre-2003 master? As it's the only one I'm aware has the Tri-Star logo on Home-Video.
If it's in HD that would be awesome even if it's an upscale of a Beta tape SD master.

Paramount owns Streaming/TV rights through Worldvision so most US digital copies of the theatrical and SE editions would be using their HD master (which is simluar to the one on the 1998 Live DVD but with the TriStar logo intact). Alos confusing is that Lionsgate owns digital storefront rights and their versions are the same as the BDs and UHD.

Thanks for the explanation SBK. I doubt the master is if any use but let’s capture it and see if it holds any worth.

This poor film. All time classic and masterpiece, but it’s got too many hands in the pot. Explains the poor treatment over the years. That and a gone mad director!

Not the first year I am waiting for this film in Open Matte, but apparently it will not happen, in fact, a 35mm copy has an additional image from the bottom and the top, and the new UHD scanning has it only bottom from the bottom from Middle of the film, if all this is combined, then it will be very decent filling of the frame.
