Best way to manage variable frame rates?
#1
Hey all,

Got some NTSC DVD's I've ripped and am looking to edit/encode but they have variable frame rates. I've tried encoding in Virtualdub but it changes the frame rate to a constant 29.970 and introduces noticable stutter.

Just wondering what the best way around this is if anyone can help?

Thanks

Changing a variable encoded rate to a constant rate should NOT invoke stutter. Perhaps 29.97 actually dips lower than the fastest frame in the source vid? I would check it in media info, and a few other programs to be sure.
If that's the case.. then you need to edit in ABOVE whatever that was (30?).
Know what I mean? A stutter is likely from skipped/dropped frames.

Yeah think that must have been it, I ended up using Handbrake with it set to VFR and done my edits/deinterlacing at the same time. Seems to have worked now
