[Archived] Aliens (1986) [Project: Celluloid — Branching Regrade]
#21
This forum isn't an archive of content. Most projects here are made available by their creators for a short time and then are taken down due to limited file locker storage or other reasons.

The project in this thread is 2 years old and is no longer available to any members old or new. Your best bet to obtain it is to ask if anybody still has it and would be willing to upload it. Of course, they'll be more inclined to go to the trouble of doing this for you if you're a contributing member who has been seen to have made positive contributions to the forum rather than someone who has just joined to acquire content.

Feallan already changed the rules for PMing based on the amount of new members we were getting and the ability for new members to PM has been curtailed.

As a new member, I’ve read the rules and am now fully aware of all the things we are NOT allowed to do.

To all the regular members who enjoy deriding newcomers looking to obtain a file like this, here’s my question: What SHOULD new people do in order to get this file?

The admins, in their wisdom, have decided to restrict new members from sending PMs for SIXTY days. So, as someone who joined hoping to access this content, what exactly should I do next? Am I supposed to wait an arbitrary 60 days and then ask for the file? Why 60 days? Is that how long it takes to “earn respect”?

It’s apparent that this website, in principle, is fine with sharing. When the OP still “had the file available,” it was acceptable for people to PM and request a link to it.

However, it seems this forum has fallen into the all-too-common trap of being hostile toward new users who simply want to obtain specific content.

To the admins: do you want new people joining your forum or not? Many new users arrive because they’ve found a thread about a specific file that interests them, only to join and be told, “Nope, not for you.”

So, please, one of the “revered forum regulars who dislikes new people,” enlighten me: how can I obtain this Aliens file? What steps should I take?

If the answer is, “You cannot,” then perhaps make it clear to newcomers that this forum is essentially useless to 95% of the new people who discover it.

Along with your link to the “rules,” perhaps you could include a post detailing how new members are not welcome to try and obtain content. This would save new members from wasting their time while also preserving the forum’s elitism. Then, everyone wins. Right?
he's right though - restricting, being hostile to and alienating new users isn't good for the site

nearly everyone "just wants to watch movies", and the point is to enable someone to have a different way to experience/watch a movie - if it's inaccessible by people it's kinda pointless? + everyone who's contributed here at one point "just wanted to watch movies" - so all this "contributers only / you have to contribute / 60 days / IP ban" actually ensures you have less or no people who contribute in the future and less people experience your contribution and less people appreciate it

it's damaging & contributes to the problem, if the site was friendlier to movie fans you'd have more movie fans contributing to the movie fan site. it's very rarer you become a movie restorer before you become a movie fan.

i always upload things anywhere with the intent of long term accessibility for everyone

Give me a break. Who are you to come on here and preach how the site should be run (with only 33 posts). Those are the rules set by admin, for a reason (there’d be a million one post newbie requests for a start), Deal with it, or go elsewhere, where it is supposedly more welcoming.

@kiyoakiwah

It might be worth starting a thread in here to discuss your concerns my friend, and not in a specific projects thread.

I do disagree with your overall opinion, but obviously you're free to have and share it Smile
Just better to discuss this one in a more appropriate part of the forum.

Who said gtfo, not me. With that attitude, your unlikely to last very long here, I see a ban coming for you quite soon. If you want to get on with us here, I suggest you stop whining like a baby and attacking regulars here and put your efforts into contributing somehow instead.
