Disney animated film LaserDisc audio collection
#11
According to this: http://www.reocities.com/Hollywood/Acade...rdisc.html
there is also a Japanese LD release (although I have yet to find any other reference to that edition) HOWEVER, according to that page, The French LD DOES contain an English audio track, but the onscreen title is in French. Regardless, the audio is the issue at hand and now I'm going to see if I can locate this LD. This film is one of Disney's under-rated classics and I love it so I would like to hear the audio from that LDWink

If a Japanese LD exists I will be properly stunned. None of the dedicated Laserdisc vendors I was buying from in the late 90's had it. The late great Dave's Video: The Laser Place in Studio City had every Japanese Disney title released.

Some films like Pinocchio and Jungle Book have never had the original mono on any LD release I know of.

Well, I realize that you have to take everything on the internet with a grain of saltWink LOL

That being said, he did provide screenshots of the French LD that you mentioned and claims it has English audio as well. If I can find one at a decent price, I'm willing to take the plunge on verify it as there is very little info on this release that I've been able to find online. If there's something I'm missing, feel free to correct me and save me a hassle.

Don't get me wrong, I don't necessarily have a problem with the 5.1 DVD track, it's just that I would like to do a true comparison and see if there actually is a difference.

As far as Pinocchio and Jungle Book, if this is actually the case, then should we remove them from the list, or mark as "not available on LD," maybe?

What about these LDs for Pinocchio, they have either 2 channel or a mono and only one is digital.

Just out of curiosity, (and because I don't have the experience using this database to make a "judgement" call) how reliable is the information on lddb?

As it's by and for LD fans in the 21st century, I'd say it's pretty accurate. Some of the information comes from old LD catalogs Pioneer and Image put out in the 80's and 90's, which always detailed the tech specs of each title.

There are more pressings of Pinocchio than I thought. 80's pressings of early Disney films are more likely to have a mono track. Jungle Book didn't see home video until 1992.
This is the only Bambi that seems to have a mono track. (Checked an ebay auction and mono is listed.)

Ditto for Cinderella.

This Japanese Peter Man clearly had mono marked on the back, but the LDDB has scant details on it. There were a lot of bilingual Disney titles released in the 80's.

Maybe somebody who can read Japanese can tell if there's an English track?

The CAV box set release of Snow White also has the original mono on the analog left. I bought the set from a used bookstore a couple years ago, but I don't have a player.

I'm sure someone around would be willing to capture the audio with your LD.

Did they ever do downmixes on LD's, digital or mono? I'm hoping the answer is no since the the whole point of getting LDs is to not have a downmix.

I can see the characters that mean Japanese dub in the box to the right of MONO, so I don't think there is an English track.

From a brief perusal of some Japanese LD sites, the Peter Pan LDs with the title on the Cover in English will be subtitled, and vice-versa. I have the feeling that most other Disney LDs in Japan are the same.

Anybody in the San Francisco area with a good LD player, and (hopefully) bit-perfect audio capturing? I also have the original recalled box set of The Nightmare Before Christmas (with the Henry Selick MTV stuff that wasn't properly cleared).
