BFI National Archive Tour
#1
On a whim, I ventured just out of the M25 to Berkhamsted to visit the BFI archive for their open day tour which was part of the Heritage Day event.

What a fantastic afternoon out! even my 14 year old son enjoyed it

saw a £1000,000 scan station in action (scanned up to 12k but the gauges only went up to 35mm. really intelligent piece of kit that scans the entire reel and then produced a report automatically with the type of print used, type of audio. any defects like tears and splices, colour used in the print etc etc.
In the inspection department there was some 35mm reel cans lined up that had Hammer Horror written on them  Happy

also took a picture of the different types of audio used on prints and also how to identify where the print came from and how old it is

also had a look in the vault and lots of 35mm prints and mag audio in storage (mag audio doesn't like the sub zero temps where the master prints are kept)

Really cool that they opened it up to the public. Glad you got to take pictures.
