I recently watched the Italian 4K release of Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon and was disappointed to discover the sound on both the UHD and Blu Ray was only offered in Dolby 5.1... unlike the theatrical release and the version streaming on AppleTv+ which were both presented in Dolby Atmos. As far as I know, this Italian disc is the only official physical release available.
I know this must sound backwards in terms of what this group is normally doing - but does the workflow exist to copy the streaming Atmos audio and synch it to an MKV of the UHD as a TrueHD track? Or is this not possible with the current hardware/software options? Just curious more than anything.

The Italian release is not Dolby 5.1, it's dts HDMA 5.1. And no, you can't expect to transcode the streaming EAC3 Atmos track to lossless Dolby TrueHD as the EAC3 track is lossy in the first place. You can only get fake lossless then. You want lossless? Stick to the Italian dts HDMA track. You want Atmos? Stick to the streaming EAC3 Atmos track. Until another country releases it natively with Dolby TrueHD Atmos anyway.

You don't need to convert it to TrueHD, you can just mux the eac3 directly to the UHD video (assuming it lines up. It would probably only need a delay if anything but I haven't looked at it myself).

Thank-you both for your replies.
Beber - you're correct. It was DTS. My mistake.
Apologies to both of you (and anyone else reading this) if the phrasing of my question was a bit of a mess. My experience and understanding of streaming audio is limited.
I no longer subscribe to AppleTV, so I can't check but I was under the impression Apple was offering an uncompressed audio stream on its key titles - so when I originally wrote my question I wasn't thinking about compressed audio at all.
I should have made my question a lot simpler and straight forward and asked, "Hey can I rip the Atmos track from AppleTV and synch it to a rip of the UHD?"
I suppose what I should have asked was if Atmos/TrueHD are formats that play nice within the programs many of us at a consumer-level are using at home or if these are closed ecosystems reserved for the techs at Dolby laboratories. For example - could I rip a PCM track from a streaming source and convert that into a TrueHD track? What would be needed to perform that task? Is this functionality offered in Handbrake or Reaper? Apologies again, if I've made a complicated mess out of this question.

If you just want to grab the atmos audio from the web-dl, you just need to figure out the frame delay with a video or audio editor and remux with mkvtoolnix. There's no need to convert the audio. If you're asking for ripping from Apple yourself, that's a bit more complicated and I can't help you there.
