Sorry, then deinterlace and slow down (if you are going to do that)

Does it matter if I slow down before, or after deinteracing?

Always best to start at frames then fields before you edit, change speed, what have you. I don't think you want to be at 23.97fps with fields but other smarter people might say different.

Ok thanks.
If someone did something similar to his tapes, let me know.

I tested recording video and audio simultaneously in AmarecTV 2.31, AmarecTV 3.1 and VirtualDub 1.10.4. In every case it introduced noise to the audio (a continuous buzzing sound... not sure what to call it), while recording using Audacity, with the SCART adapter unplugged resulted in zero added noise and great capture.

@Feallan - On topic of the noise and etc., been kinda busy, but I will PM you back soon
(that second test you sent me requires some work)

No problem, thanks Jerry

To tell the truth I've been testing VHS softwares endlessly for the last 5 years! Before that I used to have a friend of my dad's burn some of my tapes to DVD as well as a friend of my mothers. The first software I tested was Honestech VHS to DVD 3.0. For a brief period I was fairly happy with. I mostly gave up with it because the videos had a 'combing effect' which the DVDs I had done by friends of my parents did not. Also in some cases some things looked too bright. I discovered a few months ago I can work around the combing effect, or overlap as I call it, by switching to AVI but the quality looks much worse than before that I was better off with the overlap.
I tried EasyCap at one point. It pretty much gave me the same quality as Honestech and didnt exactly record at the right ratio. Finally I tried EyeTV. I tried a few different ones but mostly tested EyeTV Hybrid. I knew of this program because my mothers friend who burned me a few DVDs used it. The first one I used had a very bad signal that the VHS would have been unwatchable. I tried a few different ones with different results. Some had better signal but not exactly to where I wanted it. In some spots you could see some 'curviness' to some objects. To most that probably wouldn't bother them but I didnt like it. Some the image would shake but the quality was not that bad. Despite this I've continued to use EyeTV for recording TV programs off my cable box. Its the VCR its not capturing to my satisfaction. At one point I even asked my mother's friend if I could borrow his EyeTV tuner but he informed me it had broke. Because I had tested EyeTV, I decide to try Elgato Video Capture since it was from the same people. Nope basically got what I basically got with Honestech. I don't even think it had an option to change the format. A couple other softwares I tested with no luck. I tried Ion VHS to DVD. The video was too dark, had the overlap, and the curvy signal. I tried iGrabber. The quality wasn't too bad. It had a slight curvy signal but not as bad as some of the other softwares I'd tested. However, it had the overlap. Like with Honestech, I switched to a format that didn't have the overlap but the quality was noticeably lower. A few months ago I tried Dazzle. The quality was really low and had the overlap and it didn't look to have a format setting. A few months ago I tried Roxio Easy VHS to DVD. For a few weeks I really thought I'd come to the end of the line. No overlap, some curviness but not distracting, and the image wasn't too bright or dark. However, I'm getting some audio interference that produces buzzing throughout. Yes I know VHS tapes tend to crackle but that's not what was happening here. I'm fairly sure its related to the program since I never noticed this problem on any of the other softwares I've tested. I tried AmarecTV twice using the Honestech and Roxio softwares through it. The recorded video had a AmarecTV logo in the corner and also had the overlap. Will I reach the end of the line someday?? Who knows?? The next softwares I intend to use are Roxio for Mac and Diamond VC500. Guess I'll wait for those and right back. Sorry if this post was long but I wanted to elaborate on what a long journey it has been trying to perfect this!

Well my two best options at this point are stick with my original Honestech software and just accept the overlapping or stick with the Dazzle software I recently purchased which lacks the overlap but records the sound very loud and the result is the sound has a bit of crackle. I tried reducing the volume on the finalized video and the results weren't too bad but I can still faintly detect the crackle. I guess I cant win with this.

You could record audio separately using Audacity or other software.
Do you record audio using Line In in your sound card, or does it go through your capturing hardware? |
