[Help] Considering a mini-PC for Black Friday
#1
Hey, guys.

What do you think of these two to work on DaVinci Resolve, to encode 1080p and 2160p videos, etc.? I'm not a gamer, so I don't give a crap about that aspect of things.

https://www.amazon.fr/GEEKOM-A9-Max-Ordi...D9BX2&th=1

They both are at the same price, 999€, at the moment, although I found the IT15 at 939€ and the A9 Max at 899€ elsewhere. The IT15 seems to be the best choice, but I'm waiting for the actual Black Friday to see if the prices go down. I guess the A9 Max would do just fine for my expectations, plus I like having extra USB-A connections for external HDDs. So which one would be the better choice? Or maybe you guys know an even better alternate choice? Geekom apparently has good reputation regarding mini-PCs with robust metal casing, unlike the low-cost plastic ones used by other brands.

Taking a quick look, either of those would probably do you well. But I would definitely upgrade the RAM if you're going to be editing 4k video, the A9 supports up to 256GB of memory compared to the 64GB the IT15 maxes out on. Your biggest issue would probably be the APU, you'd get much better performance from a dedicated GPU. You could get an external GPU and connect it over USB-C, but that's an extra cost you'd have to factor in.
You could definitely get much better value and performance from building a proper PC. 999€ (~ $1,156) seems like a lot for what you're getting, and you'll be limited in what you can upgrade. But if you're willing to pay extra and deal with the downsides, I'd probably go with the IT15 (but definitely upgrade the RAM and start looking at external GPUs).
