[Idea] "Twister" back to going green instead of already green
#1
Hey, guys.

In a not too distant future, I intend to try and regrade the revisionist overly green sequence so that the dialogue makes sense again, as nothing is going green when it's very much green already. Plus the whole scene doesn't match anymore as it cuts back and forth with the inside of the diner where we don't see green through the windows that show the outside.
I just made a color matching test that worked pretty well on this shot:

UHD/German Blu-ray:

[Image: Twister-1080p-German-ESC-Blu-ray-True-HD...hot-00.jpg]

Hopefully, it will work on the other shots, too. As for the rest of the movie, I'll just keep it mainly the same as the remaster as it was testified to be a good representation of the print, probably with a bit of tweaking in contrast after the conversion from HDR to SDR. I'll use the European Universal UHD as main source since it's better than the US from Warner, but I may swap the opening so that it retains the US Warner logo to be more like the original, meaning its country of origin.

The UHD BD of Twister is also one of the most retarded color-gradings one can imagine. It's unbelievable which moron signs off all that stuff, but anyway.

Since the UHD BD also looks somewhat scrubbed and DNR-treated compared to the Remastered Blu-ray, I'd rather stick to that and forget that the UHD release ever happened (like Camerons infamous "bad dreams" only to make the same mistake with Terminator Dark Fate himself)

There are 3 UHDs now, I believe. The US from Warner, the superior Universal for Europe and the Turbine for Germany which might be even better.

It's sharpened

Yes, you're right. It has sharpening artefacts and visible aliasing on the collar.

So is there any known UHD BD release without sharpening, DNR or ugly color-regrading?

Apart from the overly green moments, the grading is fine and has been testified to represent quite faithfully what the prints looked like, and I haven't seen any excess of DNR, not even on the lesser Warner UHD.

Well, "overly green" I'd count as a euphemism as it looks completely unnatural to me. What's your verdict on the grain preservation? Again, to me the UHD BD looks slightly filtered which however could also be due to the lack of sharpening.

You just have to accept that pretty much ALL 4K releases have been processed with noise reduction/detail enhancement/regraining pipeline to have the consistent, sharp, homogenous look that they all seem to have nowadays. It's just that certain titles push it a bit, or are 'giving the game away' so to speak.
