It's a pure habit and ideology thing and I personally vote for HFR any day but with proper production sets please which is something higher qualities as usual reveal.

No matter of the personal preference and perception (which seems to be highly individual and under controversy to say the least), that kind of half-assed switching around doesn't make any sense and is as inconsistent and inconsequential as it gets. In German we'd say "gewollt und nicht gekonnt". Either release the stuff in HFR and take the heat (until people (finally) get used to it, which is not to say that productions couldn't or shouldn't improve beyond the standards of some Hobbit, Gemini Man or Billy Lynn, where flaws are also simply way more revealed and pronounced instead of the masking it by stuttery, unsharp 24 fps with its terrible temporal resolution) or leave it (sadly) as it is because it's oh so filmic. But by changing it around, even the most disinterested one who when in doubt wouldn't give a damn whether having 24 fps or more, notices that "there's something going on" (and, as Trump would conspiratively whisper: "... and it's bad!").

I'll be honest, i didn't notice any HFR when i saw Titanic in 3D a couple of years back and didn't with Avatar Fire and Ash (2D) last year which was weird because i know my cinema can utilize the format

Yeah I saw Titanic 3D with the variable HFR, it was all -- weird!
