Notes: DC offset corrected, 60hz hum attenuated. Very simple sync, just slowed down 25fps source to 23.976fps and lined up the beginning, but I watched the whole movie and didn't notice any sync issues.

Not sure, but according to some manuals I’ve read, when editing AC-3, you should work in 24-bit and export as 24-bit as well. Please correct me if I’m wrong, as I’m still learning about all of this.

I converted the original ac3 to 24-bit wav using eac3to, and did all editing work in 32-bit float, but 16-bit is a perfectly fine delivery format.

You should use BeHappy to convert AC-3 to WAV. Or, perhaps, the latest version of eac3to has fixed the AC-3 decoding issues. Otherwise, it can introduce some noise or other artifacts during the conversion.

There's no reason to use eac3to or BeHappy in 2026. Just use ffmpeg... in fact that's what latest eac3to started to do for some E-AC-3 tracks. Just calls ffmpeg, because its own libraries are outdated.

Not that AC-3 decoding would have changed any in the past years anyway. I'm 99% sure you could take latest ffmpeg, latest eac3to, 10 years old ffmpeg, 10 years old eac3to, and they'd decode to the exact same thing.

You're wrong. I'm not sure about FFmpeg, but if you don't use the latest version of eac3to (3.64), the result will be different when you compare the AC-3 and WAV spectrum.

Well, you are right. 3.63 lists this in the source:
* Fixed spectral "garbage" (banding and haze) when decoding AC3/EAC3.

Well, all the more reason not to use eac3to. The code is a horrible Pascal mess. This one's been fixed, there may be more in there.
