Using Scenarist BD To help Projects
#11
It sucks that authoring BDs is so much more complicated than authoring DVDs.

Because of this, I'm pretty sure there may be a few people around here that will take you up on the offer to help in that department.

Scenarist BD is the studios choice amongst a few other top end software for fully compliant Blu-ray so you are 100% correct  Smile

By seamless branching I take it you mean putting say Theatrical and Unrated versions in the same movie using the same movie clips on both playlists ?

If that is what you mean then yes you can in Scenarist BD  Smile

You see, on forums like this one we produce many projects that could really do with seamless branching, I make you an example: seamless branching of the Star Wars crawl title and end credits could allow people here to have one single disc that includes many localized version of the same crawl depending on the language you select at the beginning of the film. So far, nobody has managed to make anything that was actually "seamless"

I preserve movies as they first appeared in Italy.

Hi I'm familiar with putting a Theatrical and Unrated version of the same movie on a Blu-ray with the Same Clip used on both movies but I'm not entirely sure if I am familiar with the exact method you just mentioned.

I've attached a screenshot to show you the playlist of a Blu-ray I'm working on just now it is the Russel Crowe Robin Hood 2010 Unrated version with Theatrical version too.

Now at danger of teaching my grandmother to suck eggs lol, you can see 2 Playlists with multiple playitems, and the list of clips. Now each Playlist uses the same Clips for several scenes identical on both movies, These clips are saved as Playitems in their respective Playlists, The Playlist uses the Playitems to reference the Clips you follow ?

I hope that is in some way what you were meaning as I think it was ?

Hopefully my answer above helps to explain where I'm coming from.

You see in the screenshots that I am using several of the same clips on both movies only in different orders mixed together with the other clips as per the Hollywood authoring.

The reason this works is that the Playlists have all the information regarding playitems but the playitems do not actually add any file size to the movie they are merely to reference the Clips which hold the video, audio, subtitles etc. So all you need to do is establish the order of play and then arrange your playitems with corresponding clips in the correct order.

If anyone needed any help understanding this hopefully that just explained it ?

Thanks guys

I'll check the screengrabs tomorrow, I'm on my phone right now.

For now I'll just explain you the Star Wars situation. You may know that the film starts with a crawling intro. This was translated in many different languages depending on the country it was released in.
We have many preservation projects of the same film, usually based on the American version that came out in 1977. This means that if I wanted to make an Italian release for example, I would have to make a whole new disc where the intro clip is written in Italian but since I also want to watch the original American version sometimes this also means that I would have to put a different disc all together in my bluray player in order to read the same intro in English.

With the seamless branching that we have in mind we could have one disc including every single language variation of the intro (and end credits): based on what language you select from the menu screen you will get an intro clip in a different language.

Hi

Thanks for your explanation of what you are wanting that helps me to understand  Big Grin

Basically we are talking about the same thing here just coming at it with different ideas and language, but if you once you get a chance on home Laptop/PC look over what I posted you will see it is just a matter of simply arranging the playlists with the playitems and clips all together, then you would make the menu and set the button commands to play each individual movie.

So for Example: We have both the American and Italian intro, Lets say all the other movie files are identical until we get to the end again. So all I need is the files and then I put them all together for you and make the menu assign all the commands and boom done  Big Grin

Don't get me wrong takes a bit of time but I think I could make that happen given access to the material and time to put it all together  Big Grin

I would be willing to give that a try for you see how it turns out
