I signed up after doing a random search out of the blue for Fox's Peter Man (like I do every few years) and seeing this talk of a fan restoration, I didn't even read all the comments yet other than to see it was still underway earlier this year. I might be able to help.
Somewhere in my storage garage I have recordings of the original series - I think it's all on Hi Fi video. I'm sure video has degraded with 30 years of (indoor) storage, but HiFi is sometimes pretty resilent i've found even on old tapes as long as the tapes themself arent damaged, crinkled, etc.
I haven't touched the tapes in years, I hope they are not in bad shape. I meant to encode them a long time ago but life got in the way. I also didn't have a decent video capture so they just sat in a box untouched. If all I had to rip was audio it might be even better - i'm sure some of my video copies might even now be better than "some of the crap in the commonly available torrent" but wont be anything compared to someone's DVD release. Audiowise though everything was recorded from US television.
I don't know how often i'll be on, I just wanted to give a heads up that private recordings exist and I may be able to eventually help WHEN I get some of my other life issues out of the way. I'll try to stay in touch as long as my account isn't deleted or something. And i'd LOVE to see what other DVD's exist in any quality or form of the series in the meanwhile - this was literally my favorite series growing up.
