Looks like the first movie has 2 aspect ratios, not sure why since it has nothing to do with CGI.
Edit: looks like it might be a hybrid of BD and HDTV to created the extended cut. Film Addict

But if it's a hybrid, then it had to be sourced from an actual HDTV copy somewhere originally, right?
So maybe one just needs to search for that...

That's true, and the open matte parts (most of the movie) look very good.

Are there any invitation-only sites that cover HDTV rips? I don't belong to any personally but it sure might help the cause if someone here did.

Not sure, but I know a lot of Russian sites have them, although they don't always contain an English audio track.

It looks as if number II is not open-matte, sorry. The HD-DVD remux looks really nice though. I'm digging it right now.
