It seems like your VCR has not a TBC - and maybe your friend has it...
Have you tried to use a DVD-R (one with broken disc would do as well) passthrough? It may cure this, as almost (if not) all DVD-R have a TBC.

EDIT: have you also tried to submit these questions in the videohelp forum? You would find a lot of help from many VCR and video capture experts there!

Could you perhaps elaborate on this? Not familiar with TBC. Also if this is the problem what puzzles me is one of the VCR's I've tested this on is the same model VCR he has (this one if it helps http://www.ebay.com/itm/PANASONIC-PV-V46...Ciid%253A1).

Just to back up a bit. For a few years I had a Magnavox VCR/DVD combo. About two years ago the DVD player started to go and considering we had been through a few of those combo machines before I decided to get a separate VCR and separate DVD player. I thought perhaps this could be my chance to fix EyeTV so I got the same VCR off eBay that my friend owned. No dice. The fuzzy signal remained though the player works fine for the most part (one of the Star Wars tapes I captured with DVC100 was on this VCR). Very bizarre.

I went to that site a few years ago and my experience there wasn't exactly good but I suppose I could try again. I'm also thinking about posting about this in the How To section of originaltrilogy.com.

Don't think your friend's VCR has TBC, but indeed it has 4 heads - so, if yours has only 2 heads, *maybe* this is the problem...

Videohelp seems a nice place, but I was there usually as lurker, and posted only very few times. But another try for you may be useful.

Mine is a 4 head.

So, now I've finished my speculations...

Also, use a line time base corrector to straighten out vertical lines/edges. You can pass the signal through a DVD recorder for that.

Not much help yet. I had tried adjusting some of the settings when using the '09 Dazzle but it still didn't look good. Still looked washed out. Also I was getting the same washed out look with the Universal tapes with DVC100 yet other tapes I tried including my SW trilogy doesn't have that look.

Have you tried another VHS player? Could be yours is knackered.
