Super 35mm is optically squeezed in the lab.

Im sure 'Scope' trailers are converted to 'anamorphic' for there release. It has nothing to do with how the film was captured.
Im pretty sure its the same with a release print of a film. Acquisition and Distribution formats don't have to match.

We discussed this in the 'Reservoir Dogs' thread, and Ive even posted information alluding to it in this thread!

(Am i talking complete rubbish or something?)

The only difference between super 35mm and flat academy is super 35mm is exposed on the area reserved for the optical soundtrack.
The photo you posted does certainly suggest a scope composition. Perhaps they reframed the DVD to match the original Predator (which ironically McTiernan wanted to shoot in scope but wasn't allowed). There is a pal laserdisc on ebay and the sleeve mentions 2.35:1. Bit pricey though

As you can see it's clearly 21:9 with the framing moved on top of the monitor. I say we need to either fix this ourselves using whatever best material we have from past home-release, or make the noise for Fox to do a proper release of the film!

It looks more like multiple camera angles being feed into a single monitor to me.

Good spot CSchmiddlap! You can see the vertical line all the way up the screen.

Movie cameras take the live feed from the viewfinder.

The 'square' shape looks exactly like the AR of 'flat academy'.
Each square can be a separate feed (with an option to monitor each feed full screen if one wishes)
The additional guide lines are to help the operator/director to frame for the final output and it looks like they are the same on each feed.
These are also 'video' feeds for playback on set so they don't have to wait for daily's.

EDIT: I see some of this has already been acknowledged Smile
