iTunes new Dark Knight/DK Rises master

All UHD blu ray players will downconvert HDR to SDR usually with an adjustable range. Some players are better than other players at this. So it is possible, like Tom says it's a case of remapping values and interpreting metadata.

UHD Players convert HDR to SDR on the fly for non HDR playback environments.

I use MADVR through MPC-BE on the P.C that does it. it has options for the conversion but there are some compromises like for example clipped highlights. Im sure a method via LUTs ect would provide excellent results.
I believe there are already 8bit SDR conversions of UHDs on the net as we speak.

EDIT: Zoidberg beat me to it Smile

Well, I certainly haven't found that option on my Zappiti One 4K HDR player. There is an option for enabling/disabling HDR, sure, but when disabled, colors look bland. I tried some tweeking, but never found any satisfying results like the screen caps those guys posted on Blutopia.

Meaning that the 10-bit entry is the issue or that you couldn't create a 10-bit video? I'd be fine with an 8-bit final rendering.

Frankly, I'm thinking to migrate to Avisynth+ (and 10bit, too), but an old dinosaur like me is sooo sloooow...

Is that a standalone player Beber? If you connect it to a non-HDMI 2.0 display it should force SDR out. Like I said, some players are better at converting than others.

It's a multimedia player, not an optical disc player. It plays files of many sorts up to 4K HDR.

My TV is an LG OLED full HD 1080, SDR only.

That looks like a great media player.
I'm surprised it's not able to do a good job! Does it have regular updates Firmware / Software?

Yes, it does. Maybe it's just that I'm too dumb to make it work, I don't know. Does anybody else here have this player?
