Thank you for the share, HDVinnie. Downloaded and watched the BD version.
I actually really appreciated how this was a "complete" custom BD with HDVinnie-BluRG opener and functional menu including the original special features. The extent of the presentation made it feel like a very "official" unofficial disc, if that makes any sense at all.
Accordingly, the video and audio were, of course, full HD quality.
I must say, in all honesty, with absolutely no offense intended, I wasn't a fan of how Man of Steel was color-corrected for this release.
To begin with, it is my opinion that the original movie, as commercially released, looks pretty awful with the massively desaturated colors that everyone complains about. I have no idea what Zack Snyder was thinking trying to make a superhero movie, particularly one starring Superman, look almost monochromatic. It obviously screams "digital grading" and particularly begs for the creation of custom BDs.
HDVinnie's version, while bringing the colors into balance (nothing leaning too red, blue, green, or yellow), bears the opposite problem for me. It becomes unrealistic for the inverse reason of Snyder's original version-- how hypersaturated everything now looks. I've checked on multiple calibrated screens, and the color just seems too high. It varies scene by scene, but even the old Superman movies didn't push the color factor to this degree. In fact, I've never seen a commercial movie push the flesh tones to this degree. Personally, I'd be more interested in a correction that aims for real world colors or just a bit more.
YMMV, but this is just my opinion. Again, I don't want to sound ungrateful. I just don't see myself using this to replace my commercial disc. This release is well done for what it is and clearly has had quite the amount of time invested in its presentation.
In fact, I'm eagerly looking forward to HDVinnie's Prometheus disc. The clip on the first post looks marvelous.
