This is a thread that exists to categorize a bunch of one-off projects I did without creating multiple threads. Simpler projects like upscales, fast regrades, HDR experiments, audio muxes, etc.

Comments are fine but please DO NOT ask where to get these projects because they are already gone.

Alien.1979.US.BD.Upscale.2160p.HDR10.HEVC.LD.PCM.2.0.v1.0

I wanted to gather together all the Alien audio syncs I had into one file in an attempt to "archive" the work into one single place.this is an attempt to preserve the look and colors of the Alien BD transfer by upscaling that.

The BD is upscaled to 2160p resolution and transferred into 2020 colorspace using a P3 monitor and HDR10 graded. The 2020/HDR10 grading is using a new technique I've been trying with my David Fincher projects opposed to the old way I had used before.

Some notes on the audio tracks. This took a long time to do. Longer than I thought it would. In particular, the two analog tracks were nightmares to sync. Talking about ~200 edits each with both being NTSC and not time compressed. The analog tracks were basically the same. I know this because both have one or two additional sounds and one or two sounds missing. Nothing special, all either parts of the hisses or hums of the ship. Nothing you would notice with out direct comparison. The VHS required some patching from the LD to fix bad tracking issues. Only two spots.

I also wanted to sync the "stealth" PCM upgrade P&S LD. Although I have the disc, my LD player is dead. So if you have a copy, I'd love it. Thanks.

Sunshine.2007.US.BD.Upscale.2160p.HDR10.HEVC.Cinema.DTS.5.1.v1.0

I starting upscaling some more modern movies from BD to UHD resolution for fun. That would tide me over till the movie were officially release on UHD BD. First up, was Master and Commander...until it was recently announced for 4K. So I dumped all that work and finished up the second upscale, Sunshine.

I included the DVD's DTS audio in part to be complete but also just in case there is something interesting there.

Blade.Runner.1982.International.Cut.with.Final.Cut.Colors.2160p.HDR10.HEVC.PCM.2.0.v1.0

I was working a BR project but instead of upscaling the the BD, I decide to use the better scan of the 4K and just add back in the (upscaled) parts I needed for the IC or DC. I used this as my guide:

The resulting "digital intermediate" of the IC has the better scan and colors of the 4K in IC form. Since I had some computer downtime I decide to render the file into a MKV and offer it up here to see if anyone wants a copy.

For audio I just added the LD tracks, both with and without narration, that I created for my old BR IC LD project. The only addition is the upmixing of both of those LD tracks.

The.Thing.1982.Turbine.HDR.Upscale.2160p.H265.DV.HDR10+.PCM.2.0.v1.0

This is upscale of the German Turbine 1080p transfer of The Thing. It's the same transfer as the UK Arrow one with a few fixes. The goal was preserve the unique colors of that transfer but "modernize" it in a 4k/HDR MKV.

Much like Alien I added as many audio mixes as I could find, capture or be given. The highlight is the WS LD's PCM 2.0 track. The original is missing the song Superstition due to rights issues so I created 2 versions. The original as is and one with the song taken from the Signature LD.

A: Has anyone (including Zoidberg) ever heard the 1998 DTS LD of "Die Hard 2" (1990)? How does it compare to the 1995 THX AC-3 LD and the 1999 THX DVD (same master as the LDs, is it?) is it possible that they come from an alternate mix (listen at Lorenzo's "It's time to kick ass!" with a different magazine clicking sound effect (2007 BD mix is also affected [though this master includes the a plastered 1994 Fox Fanfare by David Newman]) or are they taken from a 70mm mix.

B: Do you believe the CinemaDTS of "Die Hard with a Vengeance" (1995) is a more faithful representation of the DTS mix as opposed to the DTS LD?

According to sporRv (written at OriginalTrilogy): "New BD audio very strong but not as detailed as a 1995 film should be, suspect a remix and not theatrical"

If your definition of faithful is being close to what was heard in theaters, then yes the Cinema DTS is as faithful as you can possibly get without jumping in a time machine and catching a showing yourself.
But if the LD DTS comes from the exact same lossless source as the Cinema DTS, then it may be a slight improvement as the codec is newer and more efficient.

Loving these & the Fincher projects PDB - the Alien 4K UHD had some funky grain issues and cooler colours so this one is definitely appreciated.

I'm going to need to learn your methods (if you're open to sharing) once I get an HDR monitor as there are lots of BD's I'd like to try this with.

Native 7.1 sound on UHD artisan, only the center can be said working. In addition to the fact that all channels are screwed and quieter in relation to the center of the DB by 4, there are no correct panoramic effects at all. Example: 05:30 When Kurt plays chess, the computer in the frame to the left of Kurt speaks in a female voice - your move, in 5.1 this speech sounds on the left as it should, in 7.1 it is only from the center. Then the same thing, where the radio plays, in 5.1, the drops in the music channels when changing the frame, in 7.1 everything from the center beats. Then shooting in the middle of the film is the same, all from the center. Generally road 7.1 marriage.
