I was lucky enough to catch Hard Boiled in 35mm.
It didn't look like the HKR release.
It looked more like the french DVD.

Yep, there's also the japanese LD which was very close, in fact I think they fixed the french DVD to look like the japanese LD.
Isn't it what HK rescue did? Thanks given by: LucasGodzilla

Could have swore I read a post somewhere about them using the Criterion print for the colour correction but I was juggling a lot of things at the time so could well have got mixed up.

You're probably right. I think the HK video print is doctored to look like the JP LD, whereas HK rescue tried matching the Criterion (which incidentaly, is color timed like The Killer by the same guy who did Titanic).

I don't think so, It looks nothing like the french DVD. All they seem to have done was lower the brightness alittle on the Japanese BD. The first version was untouched if I remember correctly, so they could release it on a certain tracker. .....or maybe that was Drunken Master 2! Unsure now.

If someone goes the Criterion LD route for a remaster, I have the untouched BD video of the JAP BD. Might be more useful then an already worked on file

If you mean Skip Kimball then yeah, he worked on the laserdiscs. He did a lot of telecine/grading work for Criterion, including the Michael Bay-supervised Rock/Armageddon transfers. So the French DVD/JPN LD have the best/most accurate colours, I'll have to seek them out in the future. I can't vouch in any way that the Criterion LD colours are anywhere near accurate but it's a great watch, having said that I'm also slightly obsessed with the Tartan LD Thanks given by: LucasGodzilla

Yes, that guy also did the Halloween DVD that we all prefer from the Fundamental Collection.
