Is anybody here able to share the restored 1979 track from the new BD? I'd love to give it a listen. I assume this is ok to request as other audio tracks from recent releases have been shared here (Superman, Die Hard etc.).

This is the only film (maybe T2 also) that the theatrical cut is much better. I feel the longer versions drag the pacing out unbearably.

I tend to prefer the theatrical cut of pretty much every movie I've seen. So-called "director's cuts" seldom add anything of substance and, as far as I can tell, just seem to make films longer for the sake of being longer. There are exceptions of course but, for me, not many.

Now that I try to list them I can't think of many lol Aliens, Blade Runner, Dawn of Justice, and Cop Land off the top of my head were much better than the original cut but I get what you mean - a lot of the time things get cut for good reason.

I think different Cuts are sometimes very interesting, not always better. I never watched the Redux version of AN, but I wathced the 40th anniversary Finaol Cut in Theatres, and I liked it.

My personally most favourite extended Cuts are of the three Lord of the Rings movies. Yeah, they add an insane amount of time, but with the already epic (slow) tempo of the movies they fit very well.

Yeah the Final Cut was a pretty good compramise between the two older cuts. I was only able to see it in an IMAX and the sound for the helicopter scene was amazing.


Talking of audio, I'm 3/4 of the way through syncing the LD Stereo mix to the new UHD/Blu-ray..

Most of the times I side with the TC, with very rare exceptions.

Yeah I actually phrased my point terribly. I think a lot of "directors cuts" are just cash grabs but when they are genuinely used to reveal the director's vision that got changed by the studio, they generally decent. Putting in extra scenes for the sake of it rarely adds anything. I think the family plantation portion of Apocalypse Now adds a lot to the film thematically but absolutely ruins the pacing and makes it a a bit of slog by the time they get to Kurtz .

I'm almost finished doing a sync on the laserdisc to the final cut version I'll upload it if anyone is interested
