Remember all this hoopla about them preferring not to do too many interviews and being "private". They were already into it. Matrix was also already full of this transitioning stuff they are known for today, I mean with all the agents being able to get into other peoples bodies including women, it's pretty obvious were their obsessions were, looking back on it. They just wrapped it carefully around stuff like Japanime and HK cinema and had the luck of being patronised by Joel Silver, who I believe was at least 50% responsible for the first film being so good. Excellent point. I think the top tier effects, especially the invention of bullet time, was another big draw that the later films couldn't top and often even match.

Does the leaked plot reveal that John Wick is actually Neo's persona within the matrix and that's why he's so goddam invincible?
If so, I'll see this. If not, PASS.

@Stamper - Any idea what Joel Silver's participation was in "Speed Racer". I just rewatched that this weekend and realize that it has held up well and the FX are top tier.

I think he may have been more involved, as it's a comic-book adaptation, just like V For Vendetta which he wanted to do for a long time.
The real comic-book fan always was Silver, as he wanted to do Watchmen and Sgt. Rock and others since the 80's. The Bros just were drawn into it by Silver, they seem to be to be sponge like people, who adopt the interests of people they work with if it helps furthering their own agenda and careers. The Bros didn't appear on the comic-book scene until they started working with Silver. (early 90's). Silver was the guy passionate for comic-books, HK films, Japanime and Art (as well as architecture). I still to this day can't point out any real passion for this stuff coming out of the Bros. |
