I guess it's just another lesson that all things...end. Hold onto your LDs and prints to get a taste of what it was like rather than what new thoughts sprang to their mind.

The amount of revisionism we're seeing the past several years is truly upsetting from an archival perspective.

Found images of an old (2000) german DVD, with letterboxed Widescreen. And very bad old master problems. But still want to share that find:

Looks like it was made from a composite video master, quite common on the early DVD years

We have the DCP due down in a few days...

So, it seems for the UHD they went back to something closer to the digital CCE emulation made for the Newline Platinum DVD. It's brighter than the Blu-ray, which is good 'cause the Blu-ray was way too dark. The final shot with the Hemingway quote was especially way too dark and is now back to what it should be:

He just couldn't let it go and simply grade the scene as dark as it was originally for nobody to notice the real arm along the body and for the audience to look at what the flashlight is pointing.

Afterwards he even put some digital shirt over it when he wakes up.

I'm not too keen on that one. Too much disparities as it was a Frankenstein monster edit using different masters. I think I'll try to do my own thing at some point as "Seven" is my second favorite movie.

This makes me want to just stick with my Criterion LD on principle. These "artists" are out of control. A little change in color is one thing but adding CGI doors...macklunkey!
