It's either a 4.0 mix, mixed into a 2 channel layout onto an optical track or a 6 track for 70mm projection, which usually was 5 front channels and 1 back channel. Please correct me if I'm wrong. But a 4.1 discrete mix was never in theaters for this particular movie.
4.1 (actually 4.2 but the two bass channels are identical) is the usual layout for the more modern Dolby Stereo 70mm.
Dolby Stereo 70mm was also available with split surrounds for a 5.1 layout but 5.1 Dolby Stereo films are a bit rarer, some of these films are Top Gun, Alien 3, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Apocalypse Now, Superman: The Movie, and The Black Cauldron.
