Anyone taken a look at this release yet? Looks like they re-released the original GITS in Japan last year:

By all accounts it's no longer windowboxed and the subtitles/audio issues have been fixed.

Unfortunately (or rather, fortunately) this "unboxing" of the 2017 release . .

. . shows that picture-wise it still can't beat the HD-TV "judgement" version! Why can't they get it right?!?

Notice that the 2017 looks like the previous Blu-ray. However, some reviewers do mention that the audio & subtitles were "better", probably meaning these were corrected from the previous version. Not worth the premium price IMHO.

Would a color-correction from HDTV Capture towards the 2017 BD be the best version available?

Aside for the uncertainty of what was the source for the HD-TV ("Judgment") GITS, I found a posting about it and linked to it on page 12. That video was described as "1920×1040" "WMV9". I'm still not sure which source(s) produced what video. And somewhere in the mix is a 720p source, maybe.  

I'm also not sure about the colors, but I'd go with CSchmidlapp's appraisal (he worked on a GITS restoration and saw a 35mm film of it in a theater), which means none of the releases have the original color ... I think.

Yep, you got that red out of the sky, and so probably from the rest of the picture as well (speaking in terms of R-G-B). But it looks like green is gaining too strong as it goes darker. Notice that green street sign at the top. The HD-TV has it the same strength as yours, whereas the background painting shows less green, or more blue, or both (I didn't check it with an eye-dropper yet).

Were you using curves for your corrections? With that, you could probably do a 1:1 with sample colors that show on both. (I would think that other methods would be more difficult to do that.)

I tried all kinds of methods and plug ins but in the end it was done in Adobe Premiere CC's quick color corrector.
I did an 'eye-dropper' white balance on the open credits.
Then I adjusted the black and light levels in the same corrector tool.

My correction was based on a 35mm showing. It had alot more green in it, and is why I started the project.
I knew the film pretty well and noticed the teal push and much heavier contrast, It had way more of a 'neon vibe' than even my correction can accomplish. It's one of the first times Id noticed a difference in color timings between a Theatrical and Home Video release.
I checked it against the HDTV copy and DVD I had and instantly wanted to correct it lmao.

A few years had passed and memory can be very faulty, but this feels closer now.
I'm pretty sure the processing to release print adds alot of the green push, due to other projects going on here.
