Exported video has 'glitches'
#1
Hello, from 2011 til about a year and half ago my preferred video editing and DVD burning software was Nero 10. However, a year and a half ago I noticed that when ever Nero exports videos now it tends to have 'glitches', square boxes that pop up from time to time. I had used this software countless times without this issue. For months I was going back and forth on the Nero forum trying
to find a solution to no prevail. I tried dozens of suggestions. Checking for software updates, changing quality settings, converting files to a different format, no help. I even upgraded to the 2016 Nero hoping maybe this would solve the problem. It did not not. In the past year I've tried Nero on three different computers. An Acer laptop, an HP laptop (the one I'm currently typing on), and a desktop put together by my upstairs neighbor. The glitches appeared in all three instances. Below is a few screen grabs to illustrate my point. Is the problem Nero?? The Computer(s)?? Both?? I don't think it has to do with the format of the videos since this has been occurring with basically every video I've tried converting regardless of format. I'm possibly considering switching to Cyberlink PowerDirector should I not find away around this.

Is it possible for you to export the video using a lossless codec? If so, does the video contains glitches as well?

I'll have to check. One thing in the settings is to export either in 1-Pass or 2-Pass. I've tried both. Neither got rid of the glitches although the glitches were in different spots in both cases.

Try also to update your codecs, it *may* work...

Not to come off as clueless or anything but I'm not too familiar with codecs so what would be my best method for updating them?? Not sure if this is helpful but here's the Recording Format Options in Nero Video if it means anything but as I mentioned I've pretty much fiddled with all the options in that box to no prevail.

You can download a codec pack - many codecs all together; do a web search for codec pack, I use K-lite, can't say if it's the best, but works fine for me... you could also start a new thread asking about them.

I'll try to look into it. My upstairs neighbor knows some computer stuff so he might be able to help.

Well I downloaded DivX and tried converting a video. An error occurred. I'm skeptical as to whether this would have done anything. The problem I'm consistently having with Nero comes at the burning stage. However I just finished installing something called Nero Mega Plugin Pack so I will try this burning again. Wish me luck!

No dice. The glitches still appeared. Here's two snapshots from a Star Wars tape I had recorded. One from the source file, the other from a converted Nero file. Note the bottom image has the glitch at the bottom of the image?? I know its not a good example compared to what I had posted above but enough to show the problem hasnt been solved.

I had tried K-Lite. No dice. The glitches still appeared when I converted a video with Nero. Anyways I decided to chance it and use Cyberlink Powerdirector. So far I'm really glad I did. Despite reviews that its a bit of a complicated program I havent had much trouble with it so far. I've burned three DVDs so far and have not noticed any glitches like Nero had been giving me so that's good. Only thing I've noticed is occasionally tiny little white lines may pop up but theyre very faint and considering a lot of what Im burning is VHS sourced I dont mind them as much. Better than the boxy look Nero was giving me. Below are two grabs to describe what I mean. Top is the original source while second is the converted video (look towards the bottom of both).

As you can see a very minor glitch which I've only noticed happen two or three more times in the amount of the DVD I've watched. So I'm pretty happy. I have a lot of videos saved on my one computer I would like to get rid of and now I finally can. So if anyone's considering Powerdirector from what Ive done so far I recommend it! Smile
