The original release, despite the geometry, is still definitely better; it's only really useful as another point of reference.

It is a shame that so much of the cut content from the film appears to be lost. The gorier stuff doesn't bother me in the least, I don't think lack of gore was ever an issue, I mean some of the expositional stuff with Weir. It's not a bad edit (it's actually quite clever) his story starting like it does already on the L&C, it just always felt truncated to me. Ah well, you never know what may turn up! Eventually!
