Something I read about this French edition that does make me raise an eyebrow was that it's not properly de-anamorphized and looks a little squeezed still as a result. I'll just quote the Blu-Ray forum post here and leave it for all of you people to judge.

That French 2K BTiLC looks absolutely god awful. The colour scheme looks brown and green and dreary, the dynamic range is non-existent, blacks are elevated to a grey goop, the image is stretched vertically, there's no film grain to be seen, and the compression is so bad that macrobocking can be seen left, right, and center. Good god people, how can you say this is an improvement?

Well, the new one has more image on the sides (albeit squeezed), while the old one has something more on top and bottom... an UAR version would solve the problem (and most probably could be possible to inpaint the four corners with not too much problems); about color grading, maybe something in the middleground should go - ALL according ONLY to the comparisons seen following the links found in the previous post.

I see what you're saying about the gong. Bummer, 'cause it looks very good apart from that, and much closer to what a print looks like. I'll have to look into that, 'cause if the remaster aspect ratio is 2.35:1, maybe a bit of squeezing to 2.39:1 could make the gong rounder and fix the overall geometry.

Italian Forom:

The Italian bluray (Midnight aka Koch) supposedly (uses most of a bd50) has much better compression than the French.

As regards the aspect ratio over an an Italian forum someone picked up on the fact peoples irises are actually round on the 2k remaster where as on the Arrow/Fox they are not, this is followed by someone with a photographic background explaining why this could be and is to do eith the filmimg process.

Italian Translated:

The new master is more correct with regards to geometry, the Fox/Arrow blu is stretched too much horizontally. The oval gong in the comparison screenshots is caused by distortions introduced by the anamorphic lenses used to shoot this picture. These kinds of distortions are everywhere in 80's scope movies if you know where to look, it's just an inherent part of the technology of the era.

Regarding the colour timing the new master is indeed more faithful to the original release prints although skin tones are too orange in the new master and the green/blue tones have been homogenized into the digital 'teal' we all know and love

Looking similar to the Netflix / French / Italian 2k remaster that Amazon one, maksnew, would be nice to have the link so we can have the opportunity to compare ourselves side by side.
